Descriptiontext

gumi Cryptos Capital (gCC) is a boutique early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2018 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, focused exclusively on blockchain and cryptographic-asset startups. The firm is affiliated with gumi Inc., a Japanese mobile gaming company whose CEO Hironao Kunimitsu serves as General Partner alongside Miko Matsumura. gCC operates two primary funds — Fund I ($30M, deployed during the 2018–2020 crypto bear market) and Fund II ($110M, oversubscribed and announced March 2022, managed through Delaware LLCs) — and writes initial checks of $250,000 to $1,000,000 USD into pre-seed through Series A companies.

The firm's investment thesis centers on Web3 infrastructure, middleware, developer platforms, and vertical applications in financial services (DeFi, CeFi, payments, lending) and gaming (play-to-earn, gaming guilds, metaverse). Notable early-stage positions include OpenSea (seed, 2019), Yield Guild Games (seed, 2020), 1inch (Series A, 2020), Lit Protocol (seed, 2021), Solv Protocol (seed, 2021), and etherfi (Series A, 2024), plus a heavy 2023–2024 lead-investor cadence in rounds such as Jiritsu ($10.2M), Panoptic ($4.5M), Parallax ($4.5M), Nucleus ($7M), Keyring ($6M), and Union ($12M).

gCC's revenue model is conventional early-stage VC: management fees on committed capital (Fund II managed via gumi Cryptos Capital II GP, LLC and its parallel entity) plus carried interest on successful exits. The team operates globally with a stated preference for Silicon Valley–based deals, has filed Japanese Specified Qualified Institutional Investor compliance documentation for cross-border fund operations, and maintains co-investment relationships with General Catalyst, Dragonfly, Circle, Susquehanna (SIG), Republic, and DeFi Alliance DAO. Distribution is primarily application-driven, supported by content marketing through the MikoBits blog and podcast.
