Skip Innovations is a San Francisco-based, private consumer wearable robotics company spun out of Alphabet X (Google X), where its founding team spent years developing wearable movement-assist technology. The company is creating a new product category it calls 'movewear,' with its debut product MO/GO being a powered pants system that integrates compact battery-driven motors at the knee joint with adaptive AI-driven movement software, ultralight carbon fiber cuffs, and swappable rechargeable batteries providing approximately 3+ hours of assisted walking. The base garment is co-developed with Arc'teryx (Gamma pants), lending premium outdoor apparel design and brand credibility, and the system is engineered to deliver up to 40% powered assistance on uphill terrain and make users feel up to 30 pounds lighter during movement.

Skip's business model is direct-to-consumer hardware sales with a try-before-you-buy funnel. MO/GO is sold at $4,999, with a fully refundable $99 pre-order deposit accepted today for staggered Winter 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027 delivery slots, and an $80 in-person demo experience program whose fee applies toward the pre-order if converted the same day. The target customer is the 'active adult' and 'missing middle' persona, individuals experiencing age-related or activity-related declines in leg strength and stamina who want to continue hiking and other outdoor pursuits. The company is pre-revenue (product has not yet shipped), recognized as a TIME Best Invention 2024 and Fast Company Next Big Things in Tech 2024, and operates a lean team of approximately 21-22 people out of its San Francisco headquarters.

The HubHow personalization is driving new healthcare techResearchers, entrepreneurs, and health tech executives at a recent Johns Hopkins-hosted event demonstrated how personalization is becoming central to healthcare technology adoption, moving beyond pure functionality toward seamless integration into daily life. Skip showcased its MO/GO mobility-assist pants with battery-powered motor modules, while Johns Hopkins researchers presented work on haptic prosthetics that restore touch sensation, and Verily Health unveiled an AI platform leveraging behavioral science to help patients stay engaged with their care. The theme across all demonstrations was creating technology that feels like an upgrade rather than a medical intervention, drawing parallels to how eyeglasses evolved from purely functional devices into products reflecting personal identity.Fast CompanyFrom lifelike hands to gamified nudges, how technology is reshaping the future of healthcareThis Fast Company feature explores how technology companies are applying advances in AI, 3D printing, and robotics to healthcare devices, focusing on prosthetic limbs and wearable exoskeletons.
