World OilUK LNG import plans draw criticism as North Sea production declinesThe UK government is reportedly considering spending billions of pounds on additional LNG import capacity as domestic North Sea gas production declines. Industry groups, specifically the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, are criticizing this move, arguing that it increases reliance on higher-carbon overseas supplies and undermines energy security.Scotland NewsUK government LNG import plan slammed as 'hypocrisy'The head of the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce criticized UK government plans to spend billions on infrastructure for importing liquefied natural gas, labeling the move as hypocritical given the shutdown of domestic North Sea production. These proposals were detailed in an interim response by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero regarding its Gas System in Transition consultation.Splash247BP exit puts fresh pressure on UK over Jackdaw and RosebankBP has announced it is seeking a buyer for its North Sea business, prompting the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce to urge the UK government to swiftly approve the Jackdaw and Rosebank oil and gas developments. The chamber warns that prolonged policy uncertainty is driving investment away from the UK Continental Shelf and eroding the nation's industrial capability. According to AGCC, these two projects represent nearly £29bn in economic value, 3,500 construction jobs, 880 operational roles, and approximately £1.4bn in tax revenues during the current parliament.World OilUK energy industry urges new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to reset North Sea policyUK energy industry leaders, led by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, are calling on newly appointed Prime Minister Andy Burnham to overhaul North Sea oil and gas policy following his succession of Keir Starmer. The business group is urging the government to clear the regulatory logjam by consenting to Shell's Jackdaw gas field and the Rosebank oil project, replace the Energy Profits Levy windfall tax, and adopt a more pragmatic licensing approach. Operators and investors are awaiting decisions on these major offshore developments as the new administration shapes its energy strategy while remaining constrained by fiscal rules.HolyroodNet zero sector worth over £10bn to economy, report findsA report commissioned by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) has found that Scotland's net zero sector is now worth £10.2bn per year, with 3,000 businesses supporting over 105,000 jobs. The report comes a day after the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) warned that policy uncertainty and infrastructure delays were accelerating the decline of the North Sea oil and gas industry, creating a "transition gap" for businesses diversifying into new energy sectors. The UK Government's Energy Independence Bill, announced in the King's Speech, seeks to promote renewables and nuclear while upholding the 2024 manifesto pledge not to issue new oil and gas exploration licences.YahooOil and gas has long-term future if UK Government backs industry, report saysA report by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce found that 93% of surveyed businesses believe the North Sea oil and gas industry still has a long-term future if the right economic conditions are created. The report warns that confidence is weak due to financial instability, planning delays, transmission charging, and slow project consenting, with businesses warning that investment is going abroad due to poor economic and regulatory policies. The report recommends the Government consent to the Jackdaw and Rosebank oil fields, replace the Energy Profits Levy with an oil and gas price mechanism, and accelerate planning consent processes. The IndependentOil and gas has long-term future if UK Government backs industry, report saysA report by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce found that 93% of surveyed energy sector businesses believe the North Sea oil and gas industry has a long-term future if the right economic conditions are created, with confidence weakened by financial instability, planning delays, and slow project consenting rather than lack of opportunity. The report warns that investment is going abroad due to the UK's poor economic and regulatory environment, urging the Government to consent to the Jackdaw and Rosebank oil fields, replace the Energy Profits Levy, and accelerate planning decisions. Chief executive Russell Borthwick stated that investment follows stability and called for a more competitive policy environment to retain the workforce and industrial capability needed for both energy security and net zero. The NationalUK oil and gas has 'long-term future' if government backs industryA report by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce found that 93% of surveyed businesses believe North Sea oil and gas has a long-term future if the right economic conditions are created, despite only 17% expressing confidence in the current transition. The report warns of a 'growing transition gap' driven by the energy profits levy, planning delays, and slow project consenting, with businesses repeatedly warning that investment is going abroad due to the UK's poor regulatory and fiscal environment. Industry leaders are calling on the UK government to grant consent to the Jackdaw and Rosebank oilfields, replace the energy profits levy, and create more stable policy conditions to retain the workforce and industrial capability needed for energy security and net-zero targets.Scotland NewsNorth Sea champion slams Miliband for deleted BP tweetThe UK government faces pressure to scrap the windfall tax on North Sea companies after Energy Secretary Ed Miliband deleted a tweet calling BP's profit surge morally wrong. BP's Q1 profit rose to $3.2 billion, and Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce urged replacing the 78% headline tax with a price mechanism. BP expects lower upstream production in 2026 due to Middle East disruption.IndexBoxUK Energy Sector Discusses Windfall Tax Reform with Chancellor Rachel ReevesNorth Sea oil and gas operators met with UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves to discuss energy security and the future of the Energy Profits Levy, following weeks of discussions with the UK Treasury. Industry representatives indicated they could invest up to £50 billion in the UK energy sector through 2050 if the windfall tax is replaced by the government's proposed Oil and Gas Price Mechanism. Russell Borthwick of the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce said the EPL must end, adding that changes to the fiscal framework could reverse the trend of the UK exporting jobs and importing oil and gas from volatile regions.
