Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) is a private trade and industry association established in 1970, headquartered in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It operates as the representative body for over 5,000 industrial, commercial, and service concerns within the Korangi Industrial Area (KIA), a 10,000-acre industrial estate that accounts for 40% of Pakistan's leather exports, houses 372 operative textile mills, two major oil refineries handling 78% of national crude oil refinement, and 20 commercial bank branches. The KIA ecosystem employs approximately 1.5 million workers across textiles, leather, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering, paints, and food processing sectors.

KATI's core services are membership-based and operational rather than technology-driven. The association provides collective advocacy and government liaison with federal and provincial regulatory bodies (FBR, SRB, Customs, SESSI, EOBI), an online complaint submission portal for member grievances across banking, customs, taxation, utilities, and law and order, an on-site fire station, annual fiscal policy recommendations to the Pakistani government, periodic newsletters, and event programming. Revenue is generated through undisclosed annual membership fees, the only disclosed revenue stream; no pricing tiers or public fee schedules are published.

The association is led by an elected executive committee headed by President Muhammad Ikram Rajput (2025-26), with Senior Vice President Zahid Hameed, Vice President Syed Mohammad Talha Ali, Secretary General Nihal Akhtar, and Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer (who assumed the role in 2022 after his father S.M. Muneer's passing). KATI maintains strategic partnerships with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) and the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (HCCI), with KATI leaders holding vice president and committee chair positions in the national federation. There are no subsidiaries, no disclosed funding rounds, no acquisitions, and no public financial filings; KATI operates as a member-funded non-profit trade body.

Business RecorderGovt urged to review petroleum pricing mechanismMuhammad Ikram Rajput, President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), has urged the Pakistani government to review its petroleum pricing mechanism to introduce a more transparent and predictable system. This request follows the successful negotiation that deferred a nationwide goods transporters' strike for 40 days, ending a nine-day disruption that had severely impacted supply chains and economic activity.Business RecorderIndustrialists urged to share details of products with embassiesDirector General Muhammad Irfan Soomro of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Liaison Office Karachi urged industrialists at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry to regularly share product, service and investment details with Pakistani embassies for effective international promotion. During the meeting, officials discussed improving economic diplomacy through dedicated trade desks at embassies, better coordination between ministries and industrial associations, and addressing barriers hindering trade promotion. KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput and other members proposed measures including simplified visa procedures, business-to-business facilitation through diplomatic missions, and establishing a permanent consultative mechanism involving MOFA, the Ministry of Commerce and trade bodies.Business RecorderInterest rate status quo disappoints business communityThe State Bank of Pakistan maintained its benchmark policy rate at 11.5 percent following the Monetary Policy Committee meeting on Monday, drawing sharp criticism from the business community. The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry condemned the decision as harmful, warning that persistently high borrowing costs are stifling industrial activity, hindering exports, and driving business closures. Business leaders urged the central bank to adopt a more accommodative monetary policy and provide a clear roadmap for reducing rates to single digits to restore investor confidence and sustainable economic growth.Business RecorderKATI concerned over daily fuel price change decisionThe Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has expressed strong opposition to Pakistan's government decision to implement daily fuel price changes, warning that it would create economic uncertainty rather than stability. KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput said daily petroleum price fluctuations would make effective business planning virtually impossible, disrupt supply chains, and increase costs for small and medium enterprises, transport, and logistics sectors. The association called on the government to reconsider the proposal and engage in meaningful consultation with business and industrial representatives before introducing such a pricing mechanism.Business RecorderGovt urged to examine option of Iranian oil importThe President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Muhammad Ikram Rajput, has urged the Pakistani government to examine importing low-cost oil and gas from Iran using local currency transactions to meet domestic energy needs and ease pressure on foreign exchange reserves. He stated that Pakistan's electricity, gas, and energy costs remain among the highest in the region, undermining industrial competitiveness and export performance. Rajput called on the government to adopt pragmatic energy policies that would reduce inflationary pressures, boost industrial output, and create employment opportunities through access to affordable energy.UrduPointPeople Of Pakistan Remain United In Fight Against Terrorism, KATI PresidentKATI president Muhammad Ikram Rajput condemned the terrorist attack on Sindh Rangers personnel as a cowardly assault on Pakistan's security. The meeting emphasized border trade facilitation and private sector participation.Business RecorderKATI says against any global effort aimed at revoking Pakistan’s GSP+ statusThe president of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Muhammad Ikram Rajput, has condemned international lobbying efforts to revoke Pakistan's GSP+ status, calling such actions a grave threat to national economic interests. He warned that the European Union's GSP+ facility, which provides preferential market access for Pakistan's exports—particularly textiles—is the backbone of the country's export sector and sustains millions of jobs. Rajput urged the government to defend Pakistan's trade standing and cautioned that targeting the country's economic interests crosses a "red line."Business RecorderKATI concerned at immediate recovery of super tax duesThe Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has expressed serious concern over the federal government's decision to immediately recover Rs217 billion in super tax dues from exporters covering the period 2022–2026, warning that the move could push already distressed industries towards collapse. KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput stated that the effective tax burden on industries has exceeded 50 percent, with high energy tariffs further eroding export competitiveness. The association has proposed alternative recovery mechanisms, including installment payments over three to four years or 25 percent upfront payment adjusted against pending export refunds.
