What Hudson Scenic Studio, Inc. does

Hudson Scenic Studio, Inc. is a privately held, founder-led custom fabricator and entertainment services company headquartered in Yonkers, NY, operating across two adjacent fabrication facilities totaling 120,000+ sq. ft. Founded in 1980 by Neil A. Mazzella (still active as Founder and CEO alongside CEO Stephen M. Kaus), the company serves live entertainment, themed environment, museum/architecture, and select film, retail, and corporate-event clients through three integrated divisions: Hudson Scenic Studios (custom fabrication and automation), Hudson Theatrical Associates (technical supervision and production management), and Hudson Motion Control (HMC), a proprietary EtherCAT-based motion-control platform.

The company combines in-house capabilities across carpentry, metal fabrication (160+ tons of steel and 250,000+ linear feet of aluminum processed annually), CNC machining, scenic painting, lighting/electrics (40,000+ LED nodes installed annually), rigging and rental inventory (500+ chain hoists, 20,000+ linear feet of rigging), and automation engineering using an IATSE Local 1 union workforce. Its marquee projects include scenery and automation for flagship Broadway productions (Hamilton, Hadestown, The Lion King, Aladdin, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Chicago), as well as museum exhibits such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art's CAMP: Notes on Fashion and Miami City Ballet productions.

Commercial revenue is generated on a project-by-project, custom-quote basis through a direct enterprise field-sales motion targeting Broadway/Off-Broadway producers, designers, and general managers, supplemented by an equipment rental stream (rigging, chain hoists, truss), ongoing maintenance and recertification contracts on long-running productions, and technical supervision/production management fees. Pricing is non-public and tailored to scope, materials, labor, and timeline. Distribution is wholly direct (no resellers), with projects secured through relationships, word-of-mouth, and competitive bid sessions; the firm is privately held with no institutional investment, M&A activity, or public capital structure on record.
