The Iron Mountain Daily News

What The Iron Mountain Daily News does

The Iron Mountain Daily News is a community daily newspaper serving Iron Mountain, Dickinson County, and the broader Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Founded in 1921 and headquartered at 215 E. Ludington in Iron Mountain, the publication is privately held and operated under Ogden News Publishing of Michigan, Inc., itself part of the Ogden News Publishing group. The company operates as a traditional local news outlet covering local news, business, sports, opinion, lifestyles, obituaries, public notices, and classified advertising, with no disclosed AI-driven or proprietary technology stack beyond a WordPress-based website, a third-party digital edition platform (MyNewsOnTheGo), and standard email/social distribution channels.

The product portfolio centers on the core daily newspaper (print and digital) plus a set of monetization adjacencies: a daily email newsletter, a companion advertising publication called The ADvertiser, a dedicated Jobs Board, an online Classified Ads marketplace, a Public Notices service for Michigan legal listings, and an online Obituaries section. Distribution is multi-channel, spanning physical print delivery, website access, email, Facebook, and Twitter. The company distributes content directly to local readers and to SMB advertisers through both self-serve and direct sales motions.

The business model combines paid individual subscriptions (starting at $4.00/week for combined digital and print access), display and classified advertising sold to local businesses and individuals, and recurring public-notice and obituary placements required under Michigan state law. The customer base is concentrated geographically in Dickinson County and adjacent Upper Peninsula communities, with no named enterprise or institutional customers and no disclosed institutional, private-equity, or public ownership involvement. Financials are not publicly disclosed.
