What David A. Nice Builders does

David A. Nice Builders, Inc. is a family-owned full-service construction company founded in 1975 and headquartered in Williamsburg, Virginia. The firm operates four specialized divisions: retail construction, commercial construction, civil/site development, and millwork. Its retail division delivers store build-outs, prototypes, and renovations for national luxury and premium brands including Nike, Barnes & Noble, Levi's, Banana Republic, Gap, Veronica Beard, and Mayors. The commercial division handles ground-up institutional, government, hospitality, and themed entertainment projects, with notable work at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA, alongside civic facilities for multiple Virginia municipalities. The civil division provides site development, grading, and utilities using GPS-guided equipment delivering precision to a tenth of an inch, supported by drone and 360-degree imagery surveys during preconstruction.

The firm operates Nicewood Enterprises, a wholly-owned sister corporation established in 1997 that operates a 90,000 sq ft fabrication facility in Stonehouse industrial park, producing custom millwork and fixtures for retail environments and third-party clients. Revenue is generated primarily through project-based general contracting and design-build contracts delivered directly to enterprise, government, and SMB clients, with services bid via project-based pricing rather than disclosed unit pricing. The company delivers work nationally, with leadership involvement from the founding Nice family on each project. The firm holds an industry-leading .73 EMR safety rating, OSHA 10/30-Hour certified field workforce, and recent award recognition including ABC Virginia EIC Overall Winner (2024) and Firehouse Magazine Fire Station Design Award (2024).

David A. Nice Builders completed second-generation leadership succession in 2021, with Brandon Nice assuming the presidency and Christopher Nice as VP of retail. In 2025 the company purchased a new property in Williamsburg for expansion intended to serve as its operational base for the next 50 years. The firm is privately held with no external institutional investors, operates with 51-100 employees, and is incorporated in Virginia under the legal name David A. Nice Builders, Inc.
