dkd Internet Service

What dkd Internet Service does

dkd Internet Service GmbH is a privately held, Frankfurt-headquartered digital agency that designs, builds, and operates complex enterprise web estates. Founded around 1998-2000 and operating with approximately 60 employees, the firm serves large enterprises, mid-market companies, and NGOs primarily across EMEA, with named reference customers including BayWa r.e. AG, Bitburger Braugruppe GmbH, Aktion Deutschland Hilft, BARTEC Top Holding GmbH, and Lauterbach GmbH. The agency holds the self-claimed position of having the most TYPO3 certifications worldwide and has won seven TYPO3 Awards, most recently the 2023 Industry category for BARTEC.

The company's technology stack centers on open-source and headless platforms: TYPO3 (including the Government Site Builder 11 reference for public sector), Storyblok (the firm is a 2025 Silver Partner), Shopware for e-commerce, and Pimcore for PIM/DAM-adjacent use cases, delivered through MACH architecture principles (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless). dkd builds frontends with Nuxt.js on top of TYPO3 or Storyblok, integrates Apache Solr for enterprise search, and runs on Cloudflare for global content delivery. Proprietary products extend the agency offering: Solr Enterprise Search and Hosted Solr (operated at hosted-solr.com), the dkd-gdpr TYPO3 extension for cookie/consent compliance, a DSGVO Website Audit service, and the 2024-launched Starfruit AI interface (a GDPR-compliant multi-LLM wrapper based on Open WebUI, hosted on German servers, covering Mistral, Llama, ChatGPT, and Claude).

Revenue is generated through a hybrid model: billable professional services (TYPO3 development, Storyblok implementations, Shopware e-commerce builds, SEO and digital accessibility consulting, workshops and training), managed services and hosting, and smaller but recurring product streams from software subscriptions (Starfruit AI), one-time TYPO3 extension licenses, and an online shop at shop.dkd.de. The go-to-market is enterprise field sales with SEO-driven inbound demand, direct demo/quote motions for managed services and Starfruit AI, and TYPO3-community-led demand generation, anchored by a four-partner managing-director team (Olivier Dobberkau, Søren Schaffstein, Götz Wegenast, Christian Zabanski) with no disclosed external investors or parent company.
