Sea Cliff Yacht Club

What Sea Cliff Yacht Club does

Sea Cliff Yacht Club (SCYC), Ltd. is a private, member-only yacht club founded in 1892 and headquartered at 42 The Boulevard in Sea Cliff, New York, on Hempstead Harbor with direct access to Long Island Sound. It is one of the oldest private yacht clubs on Long Island Sound and operates as a non-profit social club governed by an elected Flag (Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Secretary, Treasurer, Fleet Captain) and a Board of Governors under its constitution. Members must be sponsored by two current members in good standing, reviewed by the Board, and serve a six-month probationary period before full admission.

The club's core products and services span adult and junior sailing programs (including a seven-boat Ideal 18 fleet, US Sailing-certified junior instruction, Frostbiting winter racing, and a Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound affiliation), competitive regattas (headlined by the Around Long Island Regatta, a 205-nautical-mile race hosted since 1977, plus the Western District Regatta, Heritage Cup, and the newly founded Haustblót Shorthanded Regatta), waterfront amenities (127,000-gallon main pool, wading pool, private beach, launch service, guest moorings, trap shooting, yoga), youth programs (summer camp ages 3-8, swim team ages 7-17, Guppies ages 4-6), and year-round food and beverage operations. The restaurant is professionally operated by Foodies Cafe & Catering (owned by Rich Laurelli). Technology is limited to Jonas Club Software for membership management and dockwa.com for mooring reservations; no proprietary technology, AI, or data products are operated.

SCYC's revenue model is fundamentally a subscription/dues-driven social-club business. Primary revenue comes from annual membership dues; secondary revenue from dining, bar service, and summer snack bar operations; tertiary revenue from catering and private events (weddings, corporate events, bar/bat mitzvahs) hosted in the 125-seat Main Dining Room and 50-seat Regatta Room; and a smaller transactional stream from guest moorings, launch fees, and visiting yachtsmen facility-use charges. The club does not publicly disclose pricing, is a non-profit with no parent company, and is not publicly traded. Marketing is almost exclusively word-of-mouth and member referrals, supplemented by Membership Open Houses, the website, and visibility generated by the Around Long Island Regatta. Customer segments are local boating enthusiasts, families with children, and private social club members on the North Shore of Long Island, with reciprocal access extending the utility of membership to 42+ partner yacht clubs across the U.S. and Canada.
