What Westside Ministries does
Carey International Pastoral Training, operating publicly as Carey Outreach Ministries, is a religious educational nonprofit founded in 2005 to deliver pastoral and theological training in regions where the majority of church pastors have never received formal education. Its core product is in-person intensive pastoral training conducted at international locations across Africa (Zambia, Liberia, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania), Asia (Myanmar, Philippines), the Middle East (Egypt), and the Pacific (Solomon Islands), with many courses offered at little to no cost. Degree-granting authority sits with Carey International University of Theology (CIUT), which offers Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate programs (BTS, MTS, M.Div., D.Min.) under a Florida Department of Education Exemption for Religious Institutions, with FCPC Sustaining Membership since 2005 and a 2023-2033 CPCA Advanced Certification.
The technology surface supporting these offerings consists of the CIUT Global Campus (a synchronous, facilitator-led online education platform), the OASIS Student Portal (a third-party student information system at v4.oasissis.com used to manage courses and progress), and the Digital Theological Library 2 (DTL2) research resource integrated with the OASIS portal. Administrative operations are run from offices in Canada (Guelph, Ontario), USA (Woodstock, Illinois), and the United Kingdom (Derbyshire), under the leadership of President Dr. Tim Beavis with an international faculty that includes pastors with two decades of ministry experience.
The business model is that of a donation- and tuition-funded nonprofit: in-person training is largely subsidized by charitable giving, while online degree programs generate registration and tuition revenue. There is no disclosed venture capital, institutional investment, or parent company. No revenue figures, headcount, customer concentration data, or pricing schedules are publicly disclosed in the source material.

Westside Ministries competitors and assessment
Company assessmentEmerging players
- Acts 29 / Planting Churches Network: Church-planting network with affiliated pastor training and assessment pathways. Comparable on equipping church planters globally, though primarily a network rather than degree-granting institution.
Broad incumbents
- Liberty University (School of Divinity): Large accredited university offering fully online M.Div., D.Min., and doctoral programs at low cost with a global student base. Overlaps directly with Carey's online theological education niche but at materially greater scale and with regional accreditation.
- Southern Baptist Theological Seminary: Large accredited Southern Baptist seminary with extensive online degree programs for pastors globally. Operates at much greater scale and offers accredited credentials, but targets the same pastor-training market.
Direct peers
- Bethlehem College & Seminary: Reformed theological college and seminary offering bachelor's, M.Div., and D.Min. degrees with online delivery aimed at equipping pastors. Shares Carey's Reformed theological orientation and pastor-formation focus.
- Moody Bible Institute: Long-established evangelical theological institution offering certificate, bachelor's, and master's programs for pastors and ministry leaders, with distance-learning options. Comparable in mission focus on equipping pastors, though larger and more US-centric.
- Westminster Theological Seminary: Reformed evangelical seminary offering M.Div., M.A., and D.Min. programs with hybrid and online formats. Comparable on Reformed theological tradition, degree-granting authority, and clergy-formation mission.
- Wesley Biblical Seminary: Online-focused Methodist seminary offering M.Div. and other ministry degrees designed for working pastors. Direct comparable on hybrid/online clergy-formation model, though denominationally distinct.
- William Carey International University: Mission-focused theological university offering undergraduate and graduate programs for cross-cultural ministry workers. Shares Carey's name lineage (William Carey), global training footprint, and emphasis on equipping pastors for underserved contexts.
- Dallas Theological Seminary: Graduate-level seminary offering M.Div., Th.M., and D.Min. programs with significant online/hybrid delivery for working pastors. Direct comparable on degree-granting seminary programs and online theological education model.
Regional players
- Asia Theological Association: Accrediting network and ministry-training umbrella for theological schools across Asia. Comparable in mission of credentialing pastoral training in underserved Asian contexts, overlapping with Carey's Philippines, Myanmar, and other Asian field operations.
