DekSmart Railings

What DekSmart Railings does

DekSmart Railings is a Canadian manufacturer of aluminum and glass deck railing systems, headquartered in Summerland, British Columbia, and operating under the CenDek parent umbrella. The company engineers and produces a portfolio that includes glass railing panels (offered in 5mm, 6mm, and 10mm tempered/laminated configurations), powder-coated aluminum picket railings, ADA-compliant pipe hand railings, wind/privacy screens, matching gates, stair railings, and a range of accessories. Manufacturing is vertically integrated around in-house extrusion and a multi-stage pre-treatment powder-coating line certified to the AAMA 2604 specification, with salt-spray testing per ASTM B117-97 to 4,000 hours. A distinct technical feature is a 10mm glass system using a unique pivot channel for alignment and structural integration.

The company distributes exclusively through an authorized dealer network across North America and serves professional contractors, builders, and building product dealers through its DekSmart line, while its sibling brand Century Aluminum Railings targets DIY homeowners through home-center channels. Revenue mechanics are one-time product sales of railing systems and components; pricing is not publicly disclosed but is anchored to engineered, code-compliant (NBCC, IBC) assemblies carrying a 20-year warranty. The model is asset-light on the customer side, with no subscription, recurring service, or installation revenue component visible in available materials.

Operationally, the business is mature at 20+ years, with stated 70+ years of combined management experience and active content marketing, CHBA membership, and a public "Become a Dealer" portal indicating ongoing channel recruitment. End-customer references (Harmony Homes, Duradek, 3rd Generation Homes, and others) are typical small-to-mid residential contractor case studies rather than enterprise anchors, suggesting a fragmented SMB revenue base.

Broad incumbents

• C.R. Laurence (CRL): CRL is a large architectural metals and glass hardware supplier offering commercial-grade railing systems, glass, and storefront components. While more commercial-skewed than DekSmart, it competes in glass railing and architectural metal products through overlapping dealer and contractor channels.
• Trex Company: Trex is the dominant North American composite decking brand that has expanded into aluminum and cable railing lines sold through the same big-box and dealer channels. Its scale, marketing budget, and bundled deck-plus-railing offering make it a broad incumbent that competes with DekSmart at the channel level.
