Bevallingsbaden

What Bevallingsbaden does

Bevallingsbaden is a Dutch e-commerce and rental company founded in 2015 and headquartered in Akkrum, Netherlands. The company specializes in the sale, rental, and distribution of birthing pools (bevallingsbaden), operating as the certified European partner for the Birth Pool in a Box brand. It serves two distinct customer segments: expectant parents in the Netherlands and Belgium through a direct-to-consumer e-commerce channel, and Dutch hospitals through a B2B supply channel, with the company reporting supply relationships with more than 40 Dutch hospitals.

The company's product portfolio includes inflatable birth pools available for outright purchase, six-week rental packages, and a range of accessories including hoses, liners, thermometers, and birth kits. The underlying commerce platform is built on WooCommerce with Mollie payment processing, supporting multiple Dutch and Belgian payment methods including iDEAL, Bancontact, Belfius, and KBC. Sustainability partnerships with Trees for All (replanting), Made Blue (water offset), and Edel Immersys (pool recycling) are integrated into the customer proposition, positioning the brand around environmental responsibility in addition to product utility.

Revenue is generated through multiple streams: rental fees of €165–€215 per six-week period, outright sales of birth pools and accessories (birth kits priced at €80–€100), B2B hospital supply contracts, and an affiliate program paying €15 per referred sale. The company reports strong customer satisfaction metrics — a 4.8/5 rating across 322 Google Reviews, a 9.5/10 average satisfaction score, and a 100% recommendation rate. The business is run with a small team of 1–10 employees and has not disclosed external funding.

Direct peers

• Active Birth Pools: UK-based manufacturer and supplier of professional water birth pools to hospitals, midwives, and home-birth customers worldwide. Closely comparable in product category (fixed and inflatable birth pools), target customer mix (hospitals plus consumers), and water-birth equipment positioning.
• La Bassine / Made in Water: UK-origin brand selling professional inflatable birth pools (La Bassine) globally to consumers, midwives, and hospitals. Direct product competitor to Birth Pool in a Box in the home water-birth equipment category.
• Edel Immersys: Dutch manufacturer of professional birth pools and accessories, listed as Bevallingsbaden's recycling/repair partner and producer of the birth mirror sold on the Bevallingsbaden site. Operates in the same water-birth equipment category and supplies overlapping hospital and midwife customers in the Netherlands.
• Birthpools (Birth Pool in a Box manufacturer): Manufacturer and global distributor of the Birth Pool in a Box product line and Bevallingsbaden's exclusive European partner. Directly comparable as it sells the same underlying product category (professional inflatable birth pools) and serves both consumers and hospitals, though it also acts as Bevallingsbaden's supplier.

Broad incumbents

• Babypark: Dutch baby-goods retailer (online and physical) with a broad product catalog across strollers, car seats, furniture, and accessories. Adjacent to Bevallingsbaden in serving expectant parents in the Netherlands but does not currently focus on water-birth equipment.
• Prénatal: Large European specialty retailer of maternity, baby, and childcare products with stores and e-commerce across the Netherlands, Belgium, and other markets. Comparable as a multi-category baby-goods retailer that could plausibly expand into birth-pool rental/sales, but does not specialize in water-birth equipment.

Others

• Waterbirth International: US-based organization that promotes, educates, and supplies water-birth resources and equipment globally. Comparable in advocating and supporting water-birth practice but positioned as an advocacy/education entity rather than a direct retail competitor.
