Volyn News

What Volyn News does

Volyn News (Волинські Новини), formally Інформаційне агентство Волинські Новини, is a private regional information agency founded in 2017 and headquartered in Lutsk, Volyn Oblast, Ukraine. The company operates a direct-to-consumer online news portal covering local Volyn-region and Lutsk news, Ukrainian national affairs, and international stories across editorial categories including politics, economy, society, culture, sports, and auto. Its core technical platform is a standard news website with multimedia content delivery — text articles, video, photo galleries, blogs, and a user-submitted news feature — supplemented by a free legal Q&A service called 'Ask a Lawyer' (Запитай юриста) covering areas such as military law, and an online radio station, Radio Avers, which broadcasts on four FM frequencies across Lutsk (100.9), Kovel (95.4), Tsuman (98.4), and Shatsk (91.4). Distribution extends to social media on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, plus RSS syndication.

The company's revenue model rests on two streams: (1) advertising placements on the website, and (2) paid subscriptions to a PDF archive of weekly numbered print editions of the newspaper. Content access is otherwise free to consumers. The primary customer segment is the general public and local community of Volyn Oblast, with a secondary use-case segment of readers seeking free legal consultation. There is no disclosed B2B or enterprise customer base, no institutional or venture capital funding, and no parent company.

The business operates as an independent, privately-held regional media outlet with no disclosed headcount, no public financial reporting, and no M&A activity. Ownership is not publicly disclosed; Vadym Matviyiv (Вадим Матвіїв) appears in contact records. No AI, automation, APIs, or proprietary technology platforms beyond a conventional CMS-driven news website are referenced. Strategic differentiation is grounded in FM radio license ownership, multi-channel regional distribution, and supplementary community services rather than technology or scale.

Direct peers

• Конкурент (Konkurent): Lutsk-based regional online newspaper covering Volyn politics, business, and society. Direct peer: same city (Lutsk), same regional news vertical, same SMB/advertising revenue model, and overlapping audience and advertiser pool.
• Район.in.ua (Rayon.in.ua): Network of Ukrainian regional online news portals including Volyn coverage. Comparable as a digital-first regional news outlet monetizing through advertising and serving local geographies, with overlapping audience and advertiser base in Volyn.
• Бізнес.Район (Biznes.Rayon): Volyn-focused business and economic news vertical of the Rayon network. Comparable regional news product covering the same Volyn SMB and economic-news advertiser base, with similar ad-supported digital publishing model.
• Суспільне Волинь (Suspilne Volyn): Public broadcaster's regional Volyn outlet operating a local news site and FM radio frequencies serving the same Volyn Oblast market. Directly comparable as a local multimedia news + radio operation targeting Volyn residents, competing for the same regional advertising pool.

Broad incumbents

• Українська правда (Ukrainska Pravda): Major national Ukrainian news outlet with regional coverage. Comparable as a Ukrainian ad-supported digital news publisher, but operates nationally with much larger resources; functions as an incumbent competing for Ukrainian digital ad spend that Volyn News also targets.
• Суспільне мовлення (Suspilne / UA: Ukrainian Public Broadcaster): National public broadcaster operating FM radio, TV, and digital news including regional affiliates such as Suspilne Volyn. Comparable as a Ukrainian broadcasting-and-news platform with a regional Volyn footprint, but financially and operationally much larger and state-funded.

Others

• Дойче Велле Україна (DW Ukrainian): International public broadcaster operating a Ukrainian-language news site with nationwide coverage. Comparable only thematically as a Ukrainian-language ad-light digital news outlet; does not compete in the Volyn local market but shapes audience expectations for digital news quality.

Regional players

• 12 Канал Луцьк (12 Kanal Lutsk): Lutsk-based local television channel covering Volyn news. Comparable as a regional multimedia broadcaster competing for the same local audience and advertising budget, but operating as a TV station rather than radio + web portal.
• ЛуцькFM (LutskFM): Local Lutsk-focused FM radio station with online streaming. Comparable as a regional audio broadcaster in the same Volyn market, with overlapping listener base and advertiser pool, but operates radio-only without the news portal or PDF components.

Emerging players

• Radio NV: Ukrainian online-first talk/news radio brand. Comparable as a news/talk radio format competing for Ukrainian news audiences and regional advertisers, but operates nationally online rather than on FM in Volyn.
