St. Francis Xavier Church

What St. Francis Xavier Church does

St. Francis Xavier Church is a Catholic parish operating under the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in Buffalo, Minnesota. Founded in 1885, the parish delivers Catholic worship services, the seven sacraments (Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders), and faith formation programming across all age groups. Its core operational footprint comprises three facilities: the main church at 300 1st Avenue NW, the parish office at 223 19th Street NW, and a school and faith formation center at 219 19th Street NW.

The parish runs more than 20 ministries covering liturgical services, adult formation, youth and children's ministry, men's and women's groups, homebound outreach, hospitality, and charitable programs including a partnership with the Buffalo Food Shelf, Meals on Wheels, and Love INC. It operates St. Francis Xavier School, a Catholic K-12 institution, and serves as a satellite site for The Saint Paul Seminary Catechetical Institute's two-year Pillars Program, which has produced over 3,300 graduates. The parish also partners with Formed.org for digital Catholic content and Knights of Columbus Council #6608 for fundraising and community service. Technology infrastructure is limited to standard parish administration tools, including Ministry Scheduler Pro (Rotunda Software) for volunteer coordination.

The parish operates as a nonprofit religious organization under ecclesiastical governance rather than commercial revenue mechanics. Funding derives from parishioner donations, tithes, school tuition, and nominal program fees (e.g., Winter Faith Camp at $225–$300 per participant, Catechetical Institute registration fees). Financial figures are not publicly disclosed. Following a July 3, 2025 mortgage-burning event, the parish is debt-free. Recent leadership changes include the May 2024 ordination of Fr. Alex Rasset, the May 2024 farewell of Fr. Meyers, a new pastor installation on June 8, 2025, and the October 24, 2025 return of Fr. Kendrioski as pastor.
