Direct peers

• Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI): Russia's flagship aerospace engineering university with a comparable Soviet-era heritage, similar aerospace propulsion and aircraft engineering specialization, and an overlapping talent pipeline — the closest direct peer in mission and historical context.
• Samara National Research University (Korolev University): Another major post-Soviet aerospace university named after Sergei Korolev; shares the same heritage of space-engineering specialization and produces graduates for the same industrial cluster as the Kharkiv institute.
• National Technical University of Ukraine 'Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute': Ukraine's other premier national technical university with a strong aerospace and engineering faculty; competes directly for the same domestic student pool and state research funding.
• Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University: The world's largest dedicated aerospace and aviation university; offers a directly comparable degree portfolio (aerospace engineering, aviation, space operations) and serves as the benchmark English-language aerospace educator.
• Cranfield University: UK-based postgraduate university specializing in aerospace, aeronautical engineering, and space research; highly comparable in mission focus, research intensity, and industry partnership model.
• ISAE-SUPAERO: Leading French aerospace engineering Grande École with deep industry ties to Airbus and the European space sector; comparable in producing elite aerospace engineers and in research scope.
• Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT): US Air Force graduate school specializing in aerospace, systems, and defense engineering — comparable in defense-research focus and STEM postgraduate training, though serving uniformed officers.

Broad incumbents

• Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) - Faculty of Aerospace Engineering: Hosts one of Europe's top standalone aerospace engineering faculties as part of a broader technical university; competes for international aerospace talent and research funding at a global scale.
• Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics: World-leading aerospace engineering research and education program; not a direct curriculum competitor but defines the gold standard against which specialized aerospace universities benchmark themselves.
• Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano): Italian technical university with a strong aerospace engineering department and significant industry partnerships; competes for European aerospace talent and research grants alongside specialized schools.
