North Surrey Secondary

What North Surrey Secondary does

North Surrey Secondary is a public secondary school located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, operating under School District No. 36 (Surrey). Founded in 1906, it is one of 130 schools within the Surrey Schools district, which collectively serves over 83,000 students — among the largest school districts in British Columbia. The school delivers tuition-free secondary education to students in Grades 8–12 residing within its designated catchment area, with operational funding flowing from the BC Ministry of Education through the district rather than from tuition or commercial sources. Marketing, communications, and enrollment functions are managed centrally at the district level.

The school's educational offerings are embedded within the broader Surrey Schools district portfolio, which spans Early Learning, Elementary and Secondary programs, Online Learning (SAIL), International Education (studyinsurrey.ca), Adult Education, and a range of Programs of Choice. Technology infrastructure is described as standard K-12 educational technology, supplemented by the district-level Surrey Schools mobile application available on iOS and Android, the MyEdBC student information portal, and Microsoft Office 365 integration. No proprietary products, differentiated curriculum platforms, or specialized technology assets are disclosed at the individual school level.

As a publicly-funded educational institution, North Surrey Secondary does not operate a commercial revenue model. The school's athletics program is a notable community-facing activity; student athletes compete in BC Schools Athletics events, with two students — Shaunrie Whynter and Talia Phangura — collectively winning five gold medals at the 2026 Track & Field provincials. School-level enrollment figures are not individually disclosed; the school operates as one unit within the district's 130-school network rather than as a standalone commercial entity.
