Association des Anciens Élèves et amis de l'École Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon (AAE-ENVL)

What Association des Anciens Élèves et amis de l'École Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon (AAE-ENVL) does

The Association des Anciens Élèves et amis de l'École Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon (AAE-ENVL) is a French nonprofit alumni association (association loi 1901) founded in 1960 to maintain fraternal and professional relations among graduates of the École Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon, now part of VetAgro Sup. It serves primarily the ~400-member alumni body, secondarily current VetAgro Sup veterinary students, and incidentally friends and supporters of the Lyon veterinary school, offering an alumni network, annual conferences and colloquia, a job and internship board, a digital newsletter ('La Gazette'), jubilee medal ceremonies, and a scholarships and subsidies program that awards thesis prizes (€300–€1,000), travel bursaries (€150–€500), and stethoscope subsidies to second-year students. The association is governed entirely by volunteers — a 6-member Bureau, a 13-member Conseil d'Administration plus honorary and student representatives, and an Honorary President — with no paid employees; operations run on the third-party AssoConnect association-management platform for membership, events, payments, and communications.

Its business model is a classic two-stream nonprofit: recurring annual membership dues from alumni (rates not publicly disclosed, processed through the adhesion.aae-envl.fr portal, valid through December 31 each year) plus voluntary donations earmarked for thesis prizes, student bursaries, subsidies, commemorations, and events. Go-to-market is community-led: top-of-funnel acquisition runs through LinkedIn (500+ followers), Facebook, Instagram, and the association's website; mid-funnel conversion happens via the online membership portal and newsletter subscription; bottom-of-funnel engagement is driven by on-campus presence at VetAgro Sup ceremonies, the annual General Assembly, the alumni soiree, and co-organized events with peer associations (AFVAC congress, Inter-Écoles conferences with ENVA Alfort and ENVT Toulouse alumni). The association's headquarters is co-located at the VetAgro Sup campus in Marcy-l'Étoile, and it maintains a heritage partnership with the CNSMD (which occupies the original 1960–1980 ENVL buildings in Vaise).

Emerging players

• Cercle Bourgelat: Student organization at VetAgro Sup's veterinary campus, with governance representation on AAE-ENVL's Board. Functions as the student-facing counterpart and feeder for future AAE-ENVL members, addressing overlapping audiences in the same school ecosystem.

Broad incumbents

• AFVAC (Association Française Vétérinaire pour Animaux de Compagnie): France's leading professional veterinary association for companion animal practitioners. Comparable as a membership-based veterinary professional body; AAE-ENVL co-organizes alumni evenings at AFVAC's annual congress, positioning AFVAC as a broader incumbent in the same ecosystem.
• SNVEL (Syndicat National des Vétérinaires d'Exercice Libéral): National union representing French private-practice veterinarians. A broader membership organization serving French vets across institutions, contrasting with AAE-ENVL's single-school focus but operating in the same veterinary professional ecosystem.

Direct peers

• Association des Anciens Élèves d'Oniris (Nantes): Alumni association for Oniris, the Nantes-Atlantic National College of Veterinary Medicine, Food Science and Engineering. Comparable single-school veterinary alumni structure operating in France with similar scholarship and event programs.
• Association des Anciens Élèves de l'ENVT (Alumni ENVT Toulouse): Alumni association for the École Nationale Vétérinaire de Toulouse. Direct peer with the same mission model of member dues, scholarships, and co-organization of the annual Inter-Écoles conference and AFVAC alumni evening alongside AAE-ENVL.
• Association des Anciens Élèves d'Alfort (AAEVA / Alumni ENVA): Alumni association for graduates of the École Nationale Vétérinaire d'Alfort, the largest French veterinary school. Directly comparable as a single-school veterinary alumni association pursuing fraternal networking, student subsidies, and joint Inter-Écoles events with AAE-ENVL.

Regional players

• SNGTV (Société Nationale des Groupements Techniques Vétérinaires): French national society for veterinary technical groupings. Comparable as a French veterinary membership organization offering professional development and member services; Pierre Brouillet from AAE-ENVL's board has held responsibilities there, evidencing ecosystem overlap.

Others

• VetAgro Sup: The successor institution to ENVL and the parent campus of the veterinary program AAE-ENVL serves. While not a peer in the membership-organization sense, it is the strategic institutional anchor and core partner whose student pipeline drives AAE-ENVL's growth.
