What BELAY ROPE ACCESS LTD does

Belay Rope Access Ltd is a UK-based accredited training provider specializing in industrial rope access and working-at-height safety certification. Founded in 2013 by Iain Tindall, the company operates a purpose-built training facility at Newhaven Port in East Sussex, with a secondary training location in Lowestoft, Suffolk. Belay holds IRATA International membership and was the first GWO (Global Wind Organisation) approved training provider on England's south coast, accredited in July 2015 following audits by AfnorUK. The company also operates a Pro & RYA maritime training sub-brand in partnership with Seahaven Maritime Academy.

The company's course portfolio centers on IRATA Level 1-3 certification and RASS (Rope Access Safety Supervisor) training, GWO Basic Safety Training modules (Working at Height, Sea Survival, First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness), and GWO Blade Repair training. Supporting courses cover first aid tailored to height work, personal evacuation devices, Skylotec Actsafe powered ascenders, fall protection equipment inspection, and anchor installation and testing. Bundled career packages combine multiple certifications. Training is delivered via blended online theory plus in-person practical assessment at the Newhaven facility (which includes a training tower and boat for sea survival) or off-site at client locations, including documented corporate engagements with Eon and MHI Vestas for staff working on the Rampion offshore windfarm.

Belay generates revenue primarily through per-course fees — ranging from approximately £80 for short Tower Rescue sessions to £4,995 for multi-week Career Packages — and ancillary hardware supply, installation, and recurring maintenance contracts (6-monthly visual inspections) for rooftop safety systems. The customer mix spans individual career entrants and corporate training clients across wind energy, construction, building maintenance, and fire/rescue sectors. The company markets directly via its website with online booking and Stripe payment processing, supported by organic social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, X), blog content, email newsletter, and community/charity event engagement. With approximately six employees and no disclosed funding, Belay operates as a founder-owned, bootstrapped private limited company (UK company number 08474523).
