What Stadtbetriebe Steyr does

Stadtbetriebe Steyr GmbH is a municipal funeral services provider headquartered at Ennser Straße 10, 4403 Steyr, Austria, operating under the Bestattung Steyr brand. The company serves bereaved families and individuals in the Steyr region of Upper Austria with a comprehensive suite of end-of-life services including cremation (Feuerbestattung), traditional burial (Erdbestattung), and tree burial (Baumbestattung), along with funeral speeches, printed memorial materials, urns and coffins, flower arrangements, and full administrative handling including death notification, pickup, transfer, and coordination with authorities and clergy.

The company's core physical infrastructure includes the Krematorium Steyr, established in 1927 and the second-oldest crematorium in Austria, which conducts approximately 1,000 cremations annually, and the adjacent Urnenfriedhof Steyr urn cemetery with approximately 3,000 grave sites each accommodating up to four urns. The business holds an official municipal concession as a Leichenbestattungsunternehmen since 17.03.2012 and employs state-certified and master craftsman funeral directors, including a dementia-friendly certified specialist. Revenue is generated through one-time service fees for funeral arrangements plus recurring annual cemetery plot fees of approximately €120–€135. The go-to-market model is entirely direct-to-consumer with 24/7 availability, consultations conducted at the company office (Taborweg 10, 4400 Steyr) or at customer homes, and a website (bestattungsteyr.at) serving as the primary marketing channel. The company is a privately held municipal limited liability company (GmbH) under Austrian law, owned by the city of Steyr, with no external funding, acquisitions, or geographic expansion evident.
