Comune di Monterosso

What Comune di Monterosso does

Comune di Monterosso is the municipal government (ente comunale) of Monterosso al Mare, one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre in the Liguria region of Italy. It exercises the statutory administrative functions assigned to Italian comuni — civil registry, local taxation, urban planning, municipal policing, and civic services — for a resident population of roughly 1,400 people and a large seasonal tourism flow linked to the Cinque Terre UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre.

Its primary digital asset is the public-information portal comunemonterosso5terre.it, launched in 2017 and built on the WordPress CMS using the Saraswati Blog theme by Ample Themes. The portal publishes municipal notices, local news, Italian and European affairs commentary, and tourism-related content through a traditional editorial workflow operated by the Ufficio Comunicazione. A YouTube channel supplements the web presence. The technology stack is a commodity blogging platform with no disclosed integrations, custom applications, or commercial product layer.

There is no commercial business model: the entity is funded through Italian central-government transfers and local taxation (IMU, TARI, addizionale IRPEF) rather than product revenue. The portal generates no transactional revenue and serves an informational and civic-engagement function rather than a commercial one. No pricing, no go-to-market motion, and no customer acquisition channel exist; the "users" are residents and tourists consuming free public information.

Others

• Italia.it: The official Italian national tourism portal operated by the government. Functions as a government-backed tourism information platform serving international visitors to Italy, comparable in nature (public-sector tourism information) to Monterosso's portal but at national scale and with multilingual, professionally produced content.
• Comune di La Spezia: The larger neighboring municipality in the same province, often considered the gateway to Cinque Terre. Provides similar municipal government services and tourism information, with greater administrative resources and a broader population base, representing the next-tier comparable Italian municipal government.
• Comune di Riomaggiore: Another Cinque Terre municipality providing the same mix of municipal government services and tourism information for a small UNESCO-protected coastal town. Highly comparable in scale, mandate, and operating model to Comune di Monterosso.
• Comune di Vernazza: One of the other four Cinque Terre municipalities with a directly comparable mandate: local government services and tourism promotion for a small UNESCO-protected coastal town. Operates within the same territory and serves an overlapping visitor audience with analogous municipal functions.
• Regione Liguria: The regional government of Liguria, the administrative region containing Monterosso. Provides public information, government services, and tourism promotion at the regional level, sitting one tier above the Comune in Italy's administrative hierarchy and addressing similar information dissemination functions for residents and visitors.
• Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre: The national park authority managing the protected Cinque Terre territory. Operates tourism and information services for the same geographic area and largely overlapping audience as Comune di Monterosso, with complementary (rather than competitive) municipal, environmental, and tourism information functions.
