Coates English Willow

What Coates English Willow does

Coates English Willow (legal entity PH Coate & Son Ltd) is a privately held, family-owned artisan business domiciled in Stoke St Gregory, Taunton, Somerset, United Kingdom. The Coate family has cultivated Salix viminalis (basket willow) on the Somerset Levels since 1819 and has produced handcrafted baskets, willow furniture, garden items, and artists' willow charcoal for almost 50 years. The Somerset Levels is described as the only area remaining in England where willow is commercially grown and processed for basket production, which underpins the firm's vertically integrated supply of raw material.

The company sells across 18+ product categories including log baskets, shopping baskets, picnic hampers, kitchen and storage baskets, willow furniture, pigeon baskets, DIY craft kits, artist charcoal in multiple thicknesses, bespoke custom baskets, and living willow structures. It also operates wholly-owned sub-brands for English Willow Wicker Coffins (funerary), Coates Charcoal (art supplies), and Coates Environmental (river bank stabilisation). Distribution is direct-to-consumer via an owned e-commerce storefront and a Visitor Centre at the Meare Green Court headquarters, supplemented by YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, and X organic channels and Country Life earned media; no third-party retail or distribution intermediaries are indicated.

Revenue is generated through one-time retail product sales, bespoke custom orders, on-site Visitor Centre purchases, and workshop and gift voucher sales. Customer segments are horizontal across individual consumers, fireplace/stove owners, food-and-hospitality buyers, artists and craftspeople, pet owners, garden enthusiasts, and educational/groups visitors. Pricing is not publicly disclosed in the source material, and there is no headcount, revenue, funding, or management team data available. No APIs, software integrations, patents, trademarks, awards, partnerships, M&A activity, or AI/ML capabilities are disclosed.
