Bildungsnetzwerk Steiermark

What Bildungsnetzwerk Steiermark does

Bildungsnetzwerk Steiermark is a non-profit association (Verein Netzwerk der gemeinnützigen Erwachsenenbildungseinrichtungen der Steiermark) founded in 2002 and headquartered in Graz, Austria. It operates as the publicly mandated coordination and service center for adult education in the Styria region, funded by the Land Steiermark (Styrian State Government) through Fachabteilung Gesellschaft (A6). The organization serves a network of more than 140 adult education member institutions operating across 610+ locations, and acts as the provider-neutral intermediary between these institutions and adult learners in the region. It is not an education provider itself but a coordination, information, and quality-assurance layer on top of the existing adult education ecosystem.

The organization's core product is the Weiterbildungsnavi Steiermark, a WordPress-based online portal that aggregates searchable course listings from member institutions across more than 20 subject areas. The technology stack is conventional: WordPress CMS, Google Analytics, LimeSurvey, YouTube video integration, and Google Maps for venue location. Complementing the navigator are two newsletter products (a monthly auto-generated Angebotsnewsletter and a quarterly Bildungsnetzwerk-Newsletter), a free provider-neutral Bildungsberatung counseling service delivered in partnership with AK-Bildungsberatung and AMS BIZ (including the Steirisches Bildungstelefon 0800 215 430), and a curated online learning collection assembled during the COVID-19 period. The organization holds LQW learner-oriented quality certification, has been listed in Ö-Cert since 2013, and maintains WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility compliance.

Its business model is a public-funding model rather than a commercial one: core revenue comes from state appropriations, supplemented by modest course participation fees (quoted net without VAT as the organization is not VAT-registered) and EU project funding (notably Erasmus+). The go-to-market is community-led and direct-to-consumer in parallel — the organization leverages its institutional membership network to aggregate supply, while reaching adult learners through the online portal, counseling hotlines, newsletters, and events such as the annual Tag der Weiterbildung and regional 'Bildung wirkt' days. In the 2018 monitoring survey, 62 surveyed member institutions reported approximately 301,000 participations and 21,000 events, with around 8,000 employees across participating organizations — figures that describe the network's activity rather than Bildungsnetzwerk's own revenue base.
