What Iglesia Evangélica does
Iglesia Evangélica, formally Iglesia Hispana de Darmstadt (Iglesia Evangélica Hispano-Italiana de Darmstadt / Chiesa Evangelica Ispano-Italiana di Darmstadt), is a Spanish- and Italian-speaking evangelical Christian congregation based in Darmstadt, Germany, founded in 2007. The church serves the Hispanic and Italian diaspora community in Darmstadt and surrounding areas, providing bilingual worship services, Sunday school for children, cell group meetings in members' homes, men's, women's, and youth ministry programs, baptisms, and community fellowship events. It operates from Marburger Straße 24, sharing facilities with the German host church FeG Darmstadt (Freie evangelische Gemeinde), and conducts outreach through a Blogger-based website (iglesia-darmstadt.blogspot.com), an Instagram account (@iglesiahispanadarmstadt), and a YouTube channel, with primary member recruitment driven by word-of-mouth within the local immigrant community.
The organization has no commercial products or technology platform. All worship services and religious activities are provided free of charge; the church's only revenue stream is voluntary tithes and offerings from congregation members. The listed headcount of 118 likely reflects the active community rather than paid staff, as no employment, payroll, or operational expenditure data is disclosed. Leadership appears to be pastoral, with Michael Schmid referenced as an author of blog posts, and the church operates independently with no parent company, external investor, or formal corporate ownership structure. Geographic scope is confined to Darmstadt, Germany.
