Photography by Jessica

What Photography by Jessica does

Photography by Jessica was a sole-proprietor portrait photography business based in Co. Mayo, Ireland, operated independently by a single professional photographer (Jessica) from 2005 until ceasing operations in 2025. The business delivered direct-to-consumer studio and outdoor portrait sessions to individuals and families in Ireland, serving clients seeking professional-quality imagery for personal keepsakes, family milestones, and special occasions. The offering was a single-service professional photography practice with no proprietary technology beyond standard professional camera and lighting equipment; delivery was entirely direct, with sessions scheduled with individual clients and conducted in either a studio setting or at agreed outdoor locations in Ireland.

The business held Licentiate membership of the Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA) and operated as a fully insured and registered Irish business (registration No. 447920). Its primary marketing channel was a portfolio website (photographybyjessica.ie) supplemented by word-of-mouth referrals typical of consumer portrait photography. Revenue was generated through one-time, custom-quoted fees per session; pricing was not publicly disclosed. No institutional funding, investors, subsidiaries, or formal partnerships existed during the operating period.

In 2025 the proprietor retired ("My camera has retired"), the business ceased operations, and the website was repurposed to redirect prospective clients to Kerstin Hellmann at studiowest.ie as the recommended successor photographer. The legal entity remains referenced as a closed sole proprietorship, with no successor company or continuing operations evidenced.

Scale indicators3 records

Recent moves3 records

Emerging players

• Bella Baby Photography: Specialty portrait photography business focused on newborn and family sessions delivered on-location (in hospitals and in homes). Comparable as a portrait-only, experience-driven photography service targeting a defined consumer segment with a session-based revenue model.

Broad incumbents

• Lifetouch (Shutterfly Lifetouch): Long-established national portrait and event photography brand covering schools, sports, and family portraiture. Comparable as a scaled, multi-segment portrait photography operator that competes for the same family-and-individual portrait occasions, though Lifetouch operates through institutional channels (schools, leagues) rather than direct-to-consumer studios.
• Shutterfly: Large consumer photography platform offering prints, photo books, and personal photography services across the US and UK/IE. Comparable as a broad incumbent in the personal/family photography category, though competing more on productized printing and digital services than on bespoke studio portrait sessions.

Direct peers

• Studio West (Kerstin Hellmann): The portrait photography studio in Ireland to which Photography by Jessica explicitly refers former clients. Operates in the same niche (studio and outdoor portraits for individuals and families) and is the closest direct comparable given the same geography, customer base, and service format.

Regional players

• Olaf Photography (Ireland): Ireland-based portrait and wedding photography service operating in the same Western Ireland geography as Photography by Jessica. Comparable as a similarly sized regional solo/small-team portrait studio competing for the same local family-portrait and personal-portrait market.

Others

• Getty Images: Global commercial and stock photography platform. Adjacent rather than directly competitive: serves editorial, commercial, and advertising buyers of imagery rather than the family/individual portrait segment, but illustrates the broader photography services landscape in which a small portrait studio operates.
