St Christophers Church

What St Christophers Church does

St. Christopher's Church is a Roman Catholic parish located at 1861 Harbor Drive in Chester, Maryland, serving Kent Island, Grasonville, and surrounding areas in Queen Anne's County on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The parish operates under the Diocese of Wilmington and was officially established in 1954, with its first Mass held in September 1953 and the current church building completed in January 2009. It operates as a non-profit religious organization under Catholic canon law, governed by a Parish Council per Canon 536, currently led by Pastor Rev. Clement Vadakkedath, C.Ss.R. (Redemptorist) alongside Associate Pastor Rev. Wilson K. Paulose and Deacon Curtis Turner.

The parish's core offering is Catholic worship and sacramental services, including weekend Mass (Saturday Vigil 5:00 PM, Sunday 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM), daily Mass (Monday-Saturday 8:00 AM), Reconciliation, Adoration, Marriage preparation, Baptisms, Confirmation, and Anointing of the Sick. Supporting programs include Religious Education for children, Youth Ministry, Adult Faith Formation (OCIA), Vacation Bible School, and a wholly-owned subsidiary St. Christopher's Preschool providing early childhood education. The parish also runs outreach ministries including a Food Pantry and Backpack Program in collaboration with Maryland Catholic Conference and Haven Ministries.

The parish operates with 11 employees and uses a portfolio of standard SaaS tools: eCatholic for website hosting, ParishSOFT (formerly Faith Direct) for online giving, Flocknote for email/text communications, YouTube for live-streamed Masses, Facebook for community engagement, and Jotform for new parishioner registration. Revenue is derived from parishioner offertory gifts (weekly/monthly/one-time), second collections, preschool tuition, and sacramental fees, and is not publicly disclosed. The organization recently adjusted its Mass schedule in summer 2024 due to a shortage of priests, consolidating Sunday Masses and suspending the Saturday evening Spanish Mass.

Direct peers

• Hallow: Hallow is a Catholic prayer, meditation, and faith formation app that delivers digital spiritual content to Catholics. It is comparable to St. Christopher's because the parish also delivers faith formation and devotional content through digital channels (YouTube livestream, Flocknote, online bulletins) to serve parishioners across all ages.
• Formed: Formed is a Catholic digital media and faith formation platform used by parishes for adult education, sacramental prep, and study programs. St. Christopher's explicitly lists "Formed Resources" on its website, indicating direct integration and an overlapping mission of delivering catechesis and religious education to parishioners.
• St. Mary's Church, Annapolis: St. Mary's Church in Annapolis is a Roman Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Baltimore where St. Christopher's current pastor, Rev. Clement Vadakkedath, previously served as a Redemptorist priest. It operates as a directly comparable Catholic parish with similar Mass, sacrament, formation, and outreach ministries.

Broad incumbents

• EWTN Global Catholic Network: EWTN is the largest Catholic media network in the world, broadcasting Catholic programming globally. It is comparable to St. Christopher's livestream ministry, but EWTN operates at a vastly larger scale and serves as a broad incumbent in Catholic faith-based broadcasting beyond the parish's local reach.
• Catholic Charities USA: Catholic Charities USA is the national Catholic social services network operating food pantries, refugee services, and community outreach. St. Christopher's Outreach Ministry (Food Pantry, Backpack Program) and the parish's collaboration with Maryland Catholic Conference and Haven Ministries mirror this broader Catholic charitable mission at a local scale.
• Relevant Radio: Relevant Radio is a Catholic radio network broadcast across the US, simulcast online and via app. It is comparable to St. Christopher's YouTube livestream Mass as a Catholic media/communications outreach channel, though Relevant Radio operates as a national broadcaster rather than a local parish.
• Our Sunday Visitor (OSV): Our Sunday Visitor is a Catholic publishing and parish services company providing parish software, giving tools, and print/digital publications. St. Christopher's uses ParishSOFT (formerly Faith Direct) for online giving, and produces weekly bulletins — directly overlapping with the OSV parish services and publishing portfolio.

Emerging players

• Word on Fire Catholic Ministries: Word on Fire is a Catholic media and evangelization organization producing videos, books, and digital content. Comparable to St. Christopher's Catholic Resource offerings, Formed integration, and evangelization mission through youth ministry and adult faith formation programs.
