St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church

What St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church does

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish located at 11401 Leesville Road in Raleigh, North Carolina, operating under the Diocese of Raleigh and served by Franciscan clergy. Founded historically as an outgrowth of St. Raphael's Parish by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and later transferred to Franciscan leadership under Father David McBriar as the first Franciscan pastor, the parish today delivers the full Catholic sacramental and liturgical program — including weekend and daily Mass, Reconciliation, Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation, Matrimony, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick — alongside multi-tier faith formation from preschool through adult and the Becoming Catholic (OCIA) pathway. The organization complements its core worship mission with a broad ministry ecosystem (Advocacy, Community Life, Justice & Peace, Liturgical, and Pastoral Care), a Community Center offering athletics, classes, and summer camps, and youth/family programs including a parish-affiliated K-8 school (The Franciscan School) and preschool (St. Francis of Assisi Preschool).

The parish is structured as a religious nonprofit (legal entity: Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish of Raleigh), with 378 employees and no disclosed revenue or publicly traded equity. It does not charge for core religious services; funding is generated through voluntary parishioner stewardship, the diocesan Bishop's Annual Appeal, preschool and school tuition where applicable, facility use, and donations processed via Faith Direct. Its go-to-market model is fundamentally relational and community-based: the physical campus serves as the primary point of delivery, while digital channels — a website with bulletins and event listings, live-streamed Sunday Mass, a YouTube channel ("St. Francis TV") with original faith formation series (KBL1, KBL2), and active Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn profiles — extend reach to homebound, prospective, and remote members. Operating technology is limited to standard parish and nonprofit SaaS (Realm for parish management, JotForm for intake forms, Faith Direct for donations, YouTube for video) with no proprietary platform or disclosed AI capabilities; the organization is currently observing the Jubilee Year of St. Francis (2023-2026) and operates under a published 2024 Parish Pastoral Plan.
