Descriptiontext

Université Denis Sassou-N'Guesso (UDSN) is a public, state-owned university in the Republic of Congo inaugurated on February 5, 2021, in Kintélé approximately 30 km north of Brazzaville. It is the country's second public university, established 50 years after Université Marien Ngouabi, and is positioned as a pan-African institution of the 21st century. The campus occupies 350 hectares and is planned to comprise 53 buildings with capacity for 30,000 students, of which the first module (11 buildings, 15,000 student housing capacity in 3,768 dormitory rooms) opened at inauguration. Construction was funded by the Government of the Republic of Congo at a total cost of 241.647 billion CFA francs, with 110 billion paid in advance to the construction contractor.

UDSN operates four core academic units: the Faculté des Sciences Appliquées (FSA) covering biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science/mathematics; the Institut Supérieur des Sciences Géographiques, Environnementales et de l'Aménagement (ISSGEA) for geographic, environmental, and spatial planning sciences; the Institut Supérieur d'Architecture, d'Urbanisme, de Bâtiment et de Travaux Publics (ISAUBTP) for architecture, urbanism, and civil engineering; and the École des Mines, de l'Hydraulique et de l'Énergie (EMHE) launched in the 2024-2025 academic year for mining, hydraulics, and energy. Programs span Licence (undergraduate), Master, and (since May 2026) doctoral levels, with new Master programs launched across FSA, ISAUBTP, and ISSGEA and a Master in Curriculum Design and Evaluation introduced in 2024-2025. The first cohort of 306 licensees graduated in 2023-2024 with 98.17% pass rates at FSA and 100% at ISAUBTP, and 15 teacher-researchers were promoted to CAMES eligibility lists in August 2025. In June 2026, UDSN commissioned ultramodern research laboratories to support the new doctoral schools.

UDSN does not generate revenue through commercial pricing; tuition and fees are set by the Government of the Republic of Congo, and operating and capital funding flow from state appropriations. The institution is governed by President Pr. Ange Antoine ABENA, Vice-President Pr. Michel Didace MVOULA TSIERI, and Secretary General Pr. Macaire BATCHI. Distribution of educational services is direct on-campus in Kintélé, with formal cooperation agreements with the École d'Architecture de Paris, the University of Tokyo, the Université de Kinshasa (UNIKIN), a China-funded AI and agricultural teaching center, and a SOREMI-donated smart classroom inaugurated in November 2025. The primary customer segment is students and academic researchers in the Republic of Congo, with the institution explicitly targeting skilled-professional shortages in mining, energy, environment, and construction sectors.
