What 5468796 Architecture does

5468796 Architecture Inc. is a Winnipeg, Manitoba-based architectural design studio established in 2007 by co-founders Johanna Hurme and Sasa Radulovic. The firm operates as a collaborative studio of approximately 20 designers working around a shared table, delivering full-service architectural design from concept through construction administration. Its core practice spans residential housing (custom homes, multi-family developments, gentle-density prototypes), cultural and institutional facilities, adaptive reuse of heritage structures, urban master planning, and public realm installations. The firm has developed several proprietary design methodologies, including adaptive reuse frameworks (exemplified by the Pumphouse project which saved a historic building from demolition through creative financial pro-forma), the "skip-stop corridor" multi-family housing configuration that increases saleable area while improving ventilation and daylight, and urban design approaches focused on walkable, mixed-use communities.

The firm monetizes primarily through professional services fees on a project-by-project basis, acquired via architectural competitions, unsolicited proposals, and direct commissions from private developers, government agencies, and institutional clients. Secondary revenue streams include publication royalties from the platform.MIDDLE book (sold through Amazon, Indigo, Barnes & Noble, and Artbook) and federal research funding through the Government of Canada's Research and Knowledge Initiative for initiatives such as Shared Ground. Customer concentration is distributed across real estate developers (Alston Properties, RNDSQR, Green Seed Development Corp.), co-developers (Scatliff + Miller Murray), federal agencies (CMHC, Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada), municipal entities (The Forks Renewal Corporation), healthcare (17th Avenue Clinic), and nonprofit clients (Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council).

Commercially, the firm leverages a hybrid GTM combining enterprise field sales (direct client engagement and competition wins) with thought-leadership-driven inbound demand. Its visibility is sustained by extensive earned media coverage in over 300 publications, a regular public lecture circuit at institutions including IIT and Cornell, exhibitions at venues such as the Venice Biennale, and authored publications. The firm has accumulated four Governor General's Medals in Architecture, the 2025 RAIC Architectural Practice Award, and the 2026 WAN Firm of the Year Gold, positioning it as one of Canada's most internationally recognized mid-sized design practices. Pricing is project-specific and quote-based, with no publicly disclosed rate structure.
