Birddog Distributing

What Birddog Distributing does

Birddog Distributing Inc., doing business as Birddog Lighting, is a Bozeman, Montana-based direct-to-consumer e-commerce retailer founded in 2002 that sells residential and commercial LED rope, strip, neon, string, holiday, and commercial-grade lighting products through its own website. The company operates exclusively online from a single Montana warehouse — no physical retail storefronts — and markets itself as the internet's leading supplier of premium interior rope and strip lights, supported by 13,496 verified reviews (4.7/5 average) across Shopper Approved, Google, Facebook, and BBB.

Its catalog spans more than 2,000 SKUs across six core categories: LED rope lights (in 12V, 24V, 66V PLC RGB, and 120V variants), LED strip lights (in 12V/24V/120V with SMD 3528, SMD 5050, and FCOB technologies, plus RGB and grow-light variants), LED neon lights, holiday/seasonal decorations across nine holiday themes, string lights (including Twinkly smart lights), and commercial-grade LED fixtures. Underlying technology includes a PLC (Powerline Communication) 2-wire RGB chasing rope light, surface-mount-device LEDs rated up to 100,000 hours, and a proprietary "Brilliant Brand" exclusive sub-brand. Products are sold via tiered per-length unit pricing, with free shipping thresholds ($25+ custom cut, $299+ commercial) and Montana-based tax-free shopping as a structural customer value proposition.

Revenue is generated almost entirely through one-time hardware sales with no subscription or recurring component. The business serves three primary customer segments — residential DIY homeowners, commercial businesses and contractors, and a smaller Lighting Professionals tier served through a dedicated Pro Partner Program with exclusive discounts. Marketing is centered on SEO-optimized category content, buying guides, lighting calculators, and email promotions, with heavy reliance on third-party review verification displayed prominently to drive conversion. The company is privately held with no disclosed institutional backing, no subsidiaries, and no reported M&A or funding activity in the dataset.
