Mosaic Ecology Llc

What Mosaic Ecology Llc does

Mosaic Ecology LLC is a privately held, Portland, Oregon-based environmental restoration consulting and contracting firm founded in 2014 by Jason Dumont. The company delivers a full-lifecycle suite of services — project design, grant writing, monitoring and surveying, GIS and drone-based remote sensing, on-the-ground habitat restoration, and native plant propagation — to public agencies, non-profits, and private landowners across the Pacific Northwest. Its service offering is organized around five core areas (Project Management & Design, Monitoring & Surveying, GIS & Drone Services, Habitat Restoration, Plant Propagation) applied through specific project types including riparian restoration, watershed planning, post-fire invasive species control, macrophyte surveys, stream rewilding, and organic restoration.

The underlying technology stack combines high-accuracy GPS field data collection, drone-based multispectral and aerial imagery capture, NDVI vegetation health analysis, and digital terrain/3D modeling to support planning and monitoring decisions. Footprint Farm along the Tualatin River functions as a vertically integrated native plant propagation facility, producing forbs, graminoids, woody plants, and live stakes used across Mosaic's own projects and supplied to external clients. Since 2015 the firm has installed over 2.5 million native plants across thousands of acres and operates multi-year engagements with City of Portland, East Multnomah SWCD, Oregon State Parks, and US Forest Service.

Mosaic generates revenue through project-based professional services contracts (consulting, planning, grant writing, surveying, monitoring, implementation) supplemented by direct sales of propagated native plant material from Footprint Farm. Customer concentration is skewed toward government agencies and conservation districts; the company has no disclosed funding rounds, no M&A activity, and operates as a small (11–50 employee), regionally focused LLC with hiring conducted seasonally each spring.
