Heritage Academy Schools

What Heritage Academy Schools does

Heritage Academy Schools is a non-profit public charter school network headquartered in Mesa, Arizona, founded in 1994 as one of the first charter schools in the state. The network operates seven campuses across the Phoenix metropolitan area — Gateway K-8 and Gateway 9-12 in Queen Creek, Laveen 6-12, Maricopa 6-12 (with a K-5 elementary opening planned for 2026), Mesa 7-12, Paul Revere Academy 9-12, and Pinnacle K-8 — plus a Liberty Kids early-childhood program. It serves Arizona families seeking a tuition-free alternative to traditional public schools, emphasizing a classical liberal arts curriculum, character education built around the principles of Liberty, Integrity, and Citizenship, dual-enrollment college-credit pathways, and the proprietary Making of America Seminar on American founding documents.

The business is funded through Arizona per-pupil state charter allocations with no tuition charged to families; ancillary revenue comes from fees for uniforms (sourced via a vetted Dennis Uniform partnership), supplies, field trips, yearbooks, spirit wear, extracurriculars, and an ECA Tax Donation program to offset extracurricular costs. Go-to-market is direct-to-consumer through campus-specific websites, campus tours, open houses, information sessions, content marketing via blog and podcast (American Classroom), earned media through Niche.com and GreatSchools.com rankings, and acceptance of Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) funding. The technology stack is minimal and administrative in nature — MySchoolBucks for payments and e-IEP Pro for special education records management — with no proprietary educational platform.

Heritage Academy is led by Chairman/CEO Jared Taylor, with multiple separately incorporated legal entities (Heritage Academy, Inc., Heritage Academy Gateway, Inc., Heritage Academy Laveen, Inc., Heritage Academy Maricopa, Inc.) operating under the umbrella. Strategic differentiation rests on 28+ years of operating history, a #1 Niche.com ranking for Best Teachers in Arizona (2022, 2023, 2025), teacher compensation above state averages ($56,920-$68,971), a 4-day work week as a talent lever, and the 2023 launch of Paul Revere Academy — a partnership with East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) and Arizona Department of Child Safety that targets foster youth with combined academic and vocational programming on a single campus.
