What Ginkgo Design, LLC does
Ginkgo Design, LLC is a Vermont-based, privately held landscape design firm organized as a single-member LLC and operated as a sole-designer practice by owner David E. Burton. The company provides custom landscape design services through a structured five-step process spanning consultation, site assessment, conceptual design, design development, and construction management. Its core technology consists of 2D landscape plans and 3D renderings used to visualize layouts, plant placement, hardscape elements, and specialized installations such as in-ground pools; 3D visualization is positioned as a client-facing pre-construction communication tool rather than a proprietary platform.
The firm serves three distinct customer segments: residential homeowners seeking full-site or targeted landscape designs, landscape contractors requiring professional plans with plant lists, materials lists, and square-footage takeoffs to accelerate estimating and installation, and architects/engineers needing horticulturally sound, sustainable commercial-site landscape plans with LEED and design review board documentation. Add-on offerings include landscape lighting design and installation, in-ground pool design, and Vermont Natural Shoreland Erosion Control Certified (NSECC) services for lakefront properties.
Revenue is generated entirely through professional services on a custom, project-based pricing model with free initial consultations; pricing is not publicly disclosed. The go-to-market is consultative and direct, relying on the company website, Pinterest and Houzz portfolios, industry association visibility (Vermont Nursery and Landscape Association, Vermont Flower Show presentations), and referral relationships with installation contractors and a civil engineering partner. The service area is restricted to 20-plus Vermont communities spanning Burlington, Chittenden County, the Champlain Islands, Montpelier, and surrounding regions, with no disclosed expansion beyond Vermont.
