What Cantrell Ultimate Rafting does

Cantrell Ultimate Rafting is a privately held, family-owned and operated whitewater rafting outfitter headquartered at 49 Cantrell Drive, Fayetteville, West Virginia, with an operational base camp on Gatewood Road. The company runs guided rafting excursions on both the New River (Upper and Lower sections) and the Gauley River (Upper, Lower, and high-adrenaline marathon trips), spanning skill levels from beginner-friendly trips to Class V rapids during the controlled-release "Gauley Season" weekends after Labor Day. Cantrell self-describes as West Virginia's only remaining family-owned rafting company, differentiating on personalized service, experienced guides, and proximity to the Lower New River put-in at Cunard.

The business is vertically integrated around its ten-acre base camp, combining five cabin tiers (Top of the Hill, Barn, Country, Deluxe Amish, Rustic Bungalows) with tent and RV camping, on-site food and beverage at Our House Pub & Grill, equipment rentals (rafts, inner tubes, stand-up paddle boards), gift cards, and bundled packages across both rivers. Marketing is concentrated on TripAdvisor (2024 Travelers' Choice Award recipient), a Facebook presence, and direct website/phone booking, with event-driven promotions around Bridge Day in October and Gauley Season.

Cantrell operates on a direct-to-consumer go-to-market serving individuals, families, and small groups of adventure tourists visiting the New River Gorge region of West Virginia. The company is seasonal (April–October operating window), employs 1–10 people, has no disclosed institutional investors or parent company, and shows no evidence of funding rounds, M&A, geographic expansion, or significant leadership change in the available inputs.
