What politeknika txorierri does

Politeknika Txorierri is a cooperative vocational education and training center (POLITEKNIKA IKASTEGIA TXORIERRI S. Coop.) located in Derio, Bizkaia, in the Basque Country of Spain. Founded in 1981 as part of the Mondragon Corporation and affiliated with the Ikastolen Elkartea (Basque-language school network), the institution delivers post-secondary education (baccalaureate), vocational education and training (VET, EQF level 4), higher VET courses (EQF level 5), and specialisation courses covering digital, IoT, and other technical disciplines. It is an attached center under the Basque Government (Gobierno Vasco), with regulated programs primarily funded through public education budgets and the Basque Employment Service (Lanbide), while also serving unemployed job-seekers through reskilling pathways.

The center operates an educational technology stack built around the ALEXIA education system, virtual desks (VDI), a virtual classroom platform, and an intranet, with content delivered via its website and a digital magazine (Berritzen Digitala). Its core go-to-market combines direct-to-consumer enrollment at the Derio campus during designated matriculation periods with sales-led enterprise engagement for customised corporate training, dual VET placements, and innovation projects with regional employers. Revenue streams mix government-funded tuition (subscription/recurring), professional-services fees for corporate training, and one-time space rental for classrooms and the sports center. Strategic partnerships anchor the business: HETEL, Confebask, and Adegi co-manage the Global Training program placing roughly 60 graduates annually in international internships, while ACICAE and technology partners Gaiker, Tknika, and Parke Bizkaia support industry alignment. International mobility runs through Erasmus+, and the SUSTAIN-IT European project won a 2025 Quality Innovation Award, marking the center's innovation-driven positioning within European VET networks (EVBB, EFVET).
