AI coding tools cover the companies whose product uses AI models to write, review, test, refactor or ship code on a developer's behalf, rather than only suggesting syntax as it is typed. The 25 companies on this page sit in five overlapping segments: coding assistants and IDE copilots, autonomous coding and SDLC agents, AI code review and quality governance, AI app and website builders (vibe coding), and the codebase-context and agent-skills layer the other four run on.
What separates AI coding tools from software development generally is where the AI does the work. A DevOps platform manages the pipeline a build moves through; an AI coding tool either writes the code, judges it, or generates the application around it. That distinction shows up in the revenue models visible in the table, where subscription and usage-based (token) billing routinely appear on the same company.
The sector is unusually concentrated in one product motion. Autonomous, task-completing agents (Cognition, Poolside, Magic, Blitzy, Factory) draw disproportionately more capital than assistant-style or review-style tools, which is why funding stage and total raised often move together with how much of the engineering task the product takes over, rather than independently of it.
This list covers privately held AI coding tool companies at Series A or later. Public companies, foundation-model labs with no coding-specific product, and conventional DevOps/CI-CD or low-code platforms with no AI-native code generation or review are out of scope, as are two of the best-known pure-play coding-agent companies, Cursor (Anysphere) and Windsurf, which are being or have been acquired.
Companies are tagged against standard industry codes and against akta.pro's internal taxonomy, so the same set can be rebuilt by code, by segment, or by a combination of both.
