NewcastleGateshead Initiative is the public-private destination marketing and inward investment agency for Newcastle, Gateshead, and the wider North East England region, operating under the legal name Experience North East England. Founded in 2000 and headquartered at Neville Hall, Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, the organization promotes the area as a sustainable world-class destination to visit, meet, and invest, delivering services across tourism marketing, investment attraction, and visitor economy development.

Its service portfolio spans four operating brands — Visit North East England (tourism marketing), Invest Newcastle (investment attraction), the NewcastleGateshead Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) (a government-recognized LVEP coordinating visitor-economy strategy), and the North East England Tourism Awards (NEETA) — supported by an Industry Resource Hub, an Image & Media Library, and a Destination Development Partnership Pilot. There is no proprietary technology platform, software product, or AI capability disclosed; the offering is a coordinated ecosystem of partnership-led marketing, advisory, and convening services rather than a traditional product suite.

The business model is funded primarily by public-sector grants from Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council, augmented by partnership contributions from private-sector collaborators including Eldon Square, TransPennine Express, NE1, Newcastle Airport, Knight Frank, and NorthStandard. The agency engages in no venture or equity-funded activity, has no listed securities, and operates with a staff of 11-50. Go-to-market centers on event-driven investment promotion (notably UKREiiF conference delegations) and community-led tourism campaigns targeting domestic city-break feeder markets of Edinburgh, York, and Leeds.
