What SkyView Academy does
SkyView Academy is a nonprofit public charter school operating as Douglas County's only PK-12 institution of its kind, located in Highlands Ranch, Colorado under a charter contract with Douglas County School District No. RE-1 (renewed for 2022-2027). Founded in 2010 following a 2004 community initiative, the school serves approximately 1,000+ students across Preschool, Elementary (PK-5), Middle School (6-8, ~350 students), and High School (9-12, ~305 students), supported by 159 faculty and staff. Its academic program is built on five pillars: the Core Knowledge curriculum (PK-8), a Classical College Prep track (9-12), Capturing Kids' Hearts character education, a mandatory 20-hour-per-year service learning requirement in high school, and daily world language instruction (Spanish PK-8; ASL, French, Latin, Spanish in high school). The high school offers 15+ AP courses with a Spring 2025 mean score of 3.17 across 116 test-takers, concurrent enrollment with Arapahoe Community College, and an average SAT score of 1088 for the Class of 2026 (27 points above district, 102 points above state average).
The school's revenue model is dominated by per-pupil public funding from the district for K-12 education, supplemented by tuition for the preschool program ($680/month for M/W/F; $980/month for M-F, capped at 72 students), ancillary fees (BASE before/after care, yearbooks, parking permits), and Foundation fundraising ($2M cumulative since inception). Go-to-market is direct-to-consumer: open enrollment with district-resident priority, monthly K-12 school tours, private preschool tours, high school shadow days for 7th-11th graders, and community events, supported by an active website, social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn), and a weekly parent newsletter. Technology infrastructure is built on third-party SaaS — Canvas LMS, Infinite Campus SIS, Naviance for college/career planning, TeamSnap for athletics, MySchoolBucks for payments — with no proprietary AI, custom platform, or API. Governance rests with an elected Board of Directors (President Theresa Linne) and a leadership team headed by Head of Schools Janet Worley, with separate principals for Lower School (Paula Harrison) and Upper School (Javier Negrón).
