NewhavenUniversity of New Haven Sport Management Graduate Students Excel at National Sports Forum Case CupGraduate students from the University of New Haven's M.S. in Sport Management program participated in the National Sports Forum (NSF) Case Cup in St. Louis, competing against top graduate programs to analyze and present strategic solutions to a real-world sport-business case within 24 hours. The university's program, ranked #1 globally for graduate employment outcomes by SportBusiness, views such competitions as a direct extension of its curriculum designed to prepare graduates for careers in the sport industry. An alumna of the program (Josie Schmidt '22) served as coach and manager of partnership services for PWHL and mentored the team throughout the 10-week preparation period.Sports Business Journal30 years later, Ron Seaver reflects on NSF’s origins, resilience, growthRon Seaver, who led sponsorships for the San Diego Padres in the 1980s, conceived and launched the National Sports Forum in 1996 after a failed first attempt in 1995 attracted only three attendees. The Forum, built around five pillars (ticket sales, sponsorship, marketing, business development, and diversity/equity/inclusion), has grown into a significant sports industry conference that is now being integrated under the Sports Business Journal umbrella for its Feb. 22-24 event in St. Louis. Seaver notes the Forum lost money for its first six years but credits word-of-mouth networking and a steering committee composed of industry professionals for its eventual success and resilience, including surviving a 44% attendance drop following the September 11 attacks in 2001.TsnnTrade Show M&A: Emerald Acquires Plant Based World Expo, Sports Business Journal Scoops Up National Sports ForumEmerald Expositions acquired Plant Based World Expo from JD Events as part of its expansion into the plant-based food sector, which is projected to hit $113 billion by 2031.
