What Artistic Design Build does

Artistic Design Build Inc. is a privately held, family-owned residential design-build firm headquartered at 10411 Motor City Dr, Bethesda, MD. Founded in 1997 by husband-and-wife team Tom Mammen (construction lead) and Nancy Mammen (lead architect with 25+ years of design experience), the company operates as a 1–10 employee integrated design-and-construction contractor serving homeowners in Montgomery County, MD (Bethesda, Potomac, Chevy Chase, Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Glen Echo) with selected work in Northwest DC and Northern Virginia.

The company delivers residential remodeling, custom home construction, and specialty additions through a four-step process: a free in-home consultation, a fee-based $400 design consultation, architectural design and plans (priced at 3–5% of construction cost), and permit acquisition with construction scheduling. Core service lines include kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, custom home and additions (including second/third-story), Ipe (Brazilian walnut) deck design and installation, screened-in porches, interior renovations, and exterior renovations. The technical differentiator is the design-build integration model, which combines architectural design and construction under a single contract; specialty expertise is documented in exotic hardwood decking (Janka rating ~3,510, pre-drilled installation, air-spade root preservation techniques) and energy-efficient/green building solutions.

The business model is project-based professional services with quote-based pricing. Revenue is generated one project at a time from individual residential customers, with no recurring SaaS, franchise, or licensing component. Customer acquisition is sales-led and geographically targeted, leveraging dedicated local SEO service-area pages, an educational blog, a portfolio gallery, and a 27-review testimonials page. The firm holds a Better Business Bureau A+ rating and operates with publicly posted hours and phone contact (301-962-0123), confirming active operating status. No public revenue, funding, or headcount growth data are disclosed.

Broad incumbents

• Power Home Remodeling: Large national exterior and remodeling company with significantly greater scale, broader geographic footprint, and more sophisticated digital marketing. Competes in adjacent remodeling categories but operates at materially larger scale.
• Bath Fitter: National bathroom-remodeling franchise specializing in acrylic tub and shower replacements. Overlaps with Artistic Design Build's bath service line as a lower-cost, faster-install alternative rather than a full custom remodel.
• Re-Bath: National bathroom-remodeling franchise with standardized processes and broader geographic reach. Competes directly in one of Artistic Design Build's core service lines (bathroom remodeling), but is not a full design-build firm.

Regional players

• Hollander's Custom Flooring & Design: Regional design-build remodeling and custom flooring firm in the Midwest with a comparable integrated design-build process and project-based revenue model, though it does not directly compete in the DC-metro geography.
