Clean Sweep Chimney Services

What Clean Sweep Chimney Services does

Clean Sweep Chimney Services, LLC is a privately held, founder-owned residential chimney service company headquartered in East Berlin, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1995 by Kevin and Marilyn Bourdeau after a poor personal experience with chimney liner installation, the company delivers chimney sweeping, NFPA-compliant inspections, chimney relining, cap and damper installation, masonry repair, furnace flue cleaning, and dryer vent cleaning to homeowners across Adams, York, and Cumberland Counties in South Central Pennsylvania.

The business operates as a direct-to-consumer service with no intermediaries. The owner, Kevin Bourdeau, is a certified chimney technician with over 25 years of field experience who personally performs requested work at customer residences; appointments are scheduled by phone. The technical toolkit combines traditional chimney trade methods with modern diagnostic equipment, including video inspection cameras for interior flue examination and digital photography for documented reporting. Relining work uses the Olympia 'Forever Flex' stainless steel system. Industry certifications from the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the Certified Dryer Vent Exhaust Technician (CDET) program underpin the company's credentials.

Revenue is generated entirely through professional services billed on a quote basis; no pricing is publicly disclosed and there are no subscription or contracted revenue models. The company employs between two and fifty people depending on source, but is operationally a micro-business with the founder as the primary service provider. Customer acquisition is driven by a Google Business Profile, Angie's List listing, the company website, and word-of-mouth referrals, with multiple documented customer relationships spanning 8-10+ years. The firm has no disclosed funding, no parent company, no subsidiaries, and no digital product surface beyond a marketing website.

Emerging players

• Angi (formerly Angie's List): Home services marketplace that channels consumer demand for chimney sweeps and similar local trades. Comparable as a customer-acquisition channel the anchor is listed on, and a competitive intermediary for chimney service demand.
• HomeAdvisor: Home services lead-generation platform connecting homeowners with local service pros including chimney sweeps. Comparable as both a marketing channel and a competing demand-capture layer for chimney services.
• Thumbtack: Marketplace where homeowners request and compare quotes from local chimney and home-services professionals. Comparable as an emerging channel that can substitute for the anchor's word-of-mouth acquisition model.

Others

• TaskRabbit: On-demand home services platform for small tasks and handyman work. Comparable as a thematic peer in the local home-services marketplace space; tangential overlap with chimney-adjacent handyman tasks rather than direct chimney sweeping.

Broad incumbents

• Regency Fireplace Products: Manufacturer of gas, wood, and pellet fireplaces and inserts. Adjacent incumbent whose installed products require the chimney sweeping, inspection, and relining services the anchor provides.
• Hearth & Home Technologies: Largest U.S. manufacturer of hearth products (Heatilator, Majestic, Quadra-Fire). Comparable as the broader incumbent serving the same fireplace/chimney ecosystem where the anchor performs its cleaning and inspection services.

Direct peers

• Chimney.com: National chimney service network that connects homeowners to local chimney sweeps and provides sweeps, inspections, repairs, and relining. Directly comparable because it operates in the same residential chimney service category, although at greater scale across multiple geographies.
• Dryer Vent Wizard: National franchise specializing in dryer vent cleaning, inspection, and repair for residential customers. Comparable because the anchor offers dryer vent cleaning alongside chimney services, and the franchise model targets the same homeowner pain points (fire risk, efficiency).
