What Ark Globe Academy does

Ark Globe Academy is a mixed all-through state school located in Elephant and Castle, Southwark, London, serving students from 9 months (via the on-site Ark Start Nursery) through 18 years (Sixth Form). It is operated by Ark Schools, one of the largest multi-academy trusts in England, and functions as a not-for-profit academy funded primarily through UK government per-pupil funding allocated via Southwark Council. Its core offering spans Nursery, Primary, Secondary, and Sixth Form phases, with GCSE, A Level, and BTEC pathways and a stated mission to prepare students for university and community leadership.

The school's technology stack is built on commodity educational platforms rather than proprietary systems: Chromebooks deployed 1:1 from Year 3, the Bromcom Management Information System, the Seesaw digital learning journal for early years, the MCAS parent app for real-time attendance/communication, and iPay for cashless meal payments. Wraparound care is outsourced to The Play Professionals (7:30am-6:00pm), mental health support is provided through the Place2Be charity, and substantial university bursaries (£3,000-£50,000 per student) are funded by external donors including Marshall Wace and the Reuben Foundation. Extended curriculum offerings include Duke of Edinburgh, performing arts, sport, clubs, and a Primary Passport programme.

The business model is government-funded education delivered free at point of use. Revenue is not commercially disclosed but is structurally derived from per-pupil funding with minor ancillary income from paid secondary meals (£2.64 per meal deal), nursery fees, and donations. Admissions are processed through Southwark Council's coordinated scheme with active out-of-borough recruitment from Lambeth, Lewisham, and Croydon. Customer segments are horizontally structured by age phase (Nursery, Primary, Secondary, Sixth Form), and the school's competitive positioning rests on its Ark Schools network affiliation, Ofsted Good ratings, top-quartile KS2 outcomes (75% vs 61% national), and 3x higher rate of placement at top-tier universities compared to the national average.

Broad incumbents

• United Learning: A large UK multi-academy trust operating both state academies and independent schools. Comparable as a parent trust for schools similar to Ark Globe (e.g., Bacon's College) and as a competing MAT for pupils and staff.
• Dulwich College: A prestigious independent school in the same South London catchment, competing for high-attainment families considering Ark Globe's sixth form. Broad incumbent — operates in the same education market but on a fee-paying model rather than state-funded.
• Harris Federation: One of the largest UK multi-academy trusts, operating dozens of primary and secondary academies. Comparable as a multi-academy trust competitor to Ark Schools in the London and South East market, though at much greater scale.

Direct peers

• Ark Kings Academy: A Birmingham-based Ark Schools all-through academy covering ages 4–18. Direct peer in terms of network affiliation, all-through model, and curriculum approach; differs by geography but is closely comparable on operating model.
• Ark Burlington Danes Academy: A Hammersmith & Fulham-based Ark Schools all-through academy operating primary, secondary and sixth form phases. Direct peer by virtue of identical network affiliation, all-through structure, and London academy operating model.
• Harris City Academy Crystal Palace: A South London secondary academy run by the Harris Federation, one of the largest UK MATs. Direct peer on academy-chain operating model, South London footprint, and competition for similar pupil intake.
• Ark Academy Wembley: A mixed all-through academy within the same Ark Schools multi-academy trust as Ark Globe, serving Nursery through Sixth Form with a similar knowledge-rich curriculum, 1:1 device programme, and university-preparation ethos. Direct peer by virtue of shared MAT, all-through model, and London footprint.
• Oasis Academy South Bank: An Oasis Community Learning academy in Southwark serving primary and secondary phases, operating in the same borough and competing for the same coordinated admissions pool. Direct peer on geographic catchment, phase coverage, and academy-chain operating model.
• London Academy of Excellence: A selective sixth-form college in East London with a strong university-preparation ethos and partnerships with independent schools. Direct peer on sixth-form university-preparation positioning, though narrower in phase coverage (sixth form only).
• Bacon's College: A Southwark secondary school (now part of United Learning) with sixth form provision, competing in the same local admissions market as Ark Globe. Direct peer on geography, phase coverage (secondary + sixth form), and all-ability intake.
