Martino Glass

What Martino Glass does

Martino Glass Company, Inc. is a full-service glass fabricator, retailer, and installer headquartered in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, serving Berkshire County and Western Massachusetts. Founded in 1966 and continuously operating for 55+ years, the business addresses three customer segments: residential homeowners requiring repair and replacement work, custom home builders and remodelers needing fabricated glass products, and commercial general contractors executing glazing scopes on larger projects. The company is privately held under owner Ashley Shepardson, who acquired it in 2017 following the death of prior owner Tom O'Brien. Headcount sits in the 11–50 employee band, and the firm operates a retail storefront, an in-house fabrication shop, and a mobile installation fleet.

The product portfolio spans flat-glass fabrication — insulated, tempered, laminated, security, ballistic, hurricane-impact, and blast-rated units — alongside finished assemblies such as curtainwall, storefronts, shower enclosures, railings, tabletops, mirrors, and skylights. Martino sources raw glass and architectural hardware from a broad ecosystem of regional and national suppliers, including Oldcastle, Cardinal, Syracuse, Sigco, Karas & Karas, Woon-Tech, Kalwall, Wasco, Hope's Windows, and CR Laurence, and acts as a registered dealer for specialty systems such as Showerguard. This supplier breadth enables local delivery of niche specialty products (ADA-compliant operators, Kalwall translucent panels) alongside commodity residential repair.

Revenue mechanics are project-based and dual-channel. Residential and small commercial work is sourced via walk-in retail traffic, free in-home estimates, and referral relationships with local contractors and insurance carriers. Commercial glazing is sourced through negotiated contracts and competitive bid with regional general contractors, hospitality developers, and institutional owners. Disclosed commercial engagements include Miraval Berkshires, Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, Catamount Mountain Resort, Berkshire Family YMCA, Adlib Inc., and Berkshire Mazda. The company is debt-free in appearance, has no outside equity capital, and does not disclose revenue or financial results.

Broad incumbents

• Andersen Windows & Doors: National window and door manufacturer whose products Martino Glass distributes and installs (including Hope's Windows via Andersen). Overlaps with Martino Glass on the commercial aluminum storefront and residential window replacement segments at vastly greater scale.
• Renewal by Andersen: National window and door replacement franchise under Andersen Corporation. While narrowly focused on replacement windows and doors, it overlaps with part of Martino Glass's residential installation business and shows the scaled-up version of Martino's direct-to-consumer replacement model.
• Pella Windows & Doors: Major national window and door manufacturer with its own installer network serving residential and light commercial customers. Comparable to Martino Glass through shared customer segments and the product-distribution-plus-installer adjacency.
• Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope: Large-scale glass and architectural metal supplier and installer serving commercial construction. Comparable to Martino Glass as a glass supplier partner (Oldcastle is explicitly listed in Martino's partnership roster) and as a commercial glazing provider at materially greater scale.

Direct peers

• Champion Window: Window and door replacement company with a direct sales force serving homeowners across multiple US regions. Closely comparable to Martino Glass's residential window/door replacement service line and consultation-driven, in-home estimate model.
• Glass Doctor: National franchise-based glass repair, replacement, and installation network under Neighborly. Closest analog to Martino Glass in operating a residential and light-commercial glass services model with similar offerings in shower enclosures, insulated glass, and custom fabrication, although at dramatically larger scale.
• The Glass Guru: Glass services franchise focused on repair, restoration, and replacement for residential and commercial customers. Strongly comparable to Martino Glass's repair-led, custom-fabrication-enabled service offering and direct-to-consumer orientation.
• Harmon Glass: Commercial and residential glazing contractor with full-service installation capabilities across storefronts, curtainwall, and interior glass. Highly comparable to Martino Glass's commercial glazing service line and its all-glass entry / curtainwall product set.
• Binswanger Glass: One of the oldest full-service glass companies in the US, operating since 1872 with residential, commercial, and auto glass service lines. Comparable to Martino Glass's three-legged service model (residential/commercial/retail repair) and its custom fabrication capability.

Others

• Kawneer Company: Commercial glazing and framing systems manufacturer serving curtainwall and storefront applications. Comparable to Martino Glass via overlap on the commercial storefront and curtainwall product lines, though Kawneer operates upstream as a systems supplier rather than an installer.
