ANNP - Associação De Natação Do Norte De Portugal

What ANNP - Associação De Natação Do Norte De Portugal does

ANNP - Associação De Natação Do Norte De Portugal is a regional sports federation (associação regional) founded in 1920 that serves as the territorial federation for swimming and related aquatic disciplines in Northern Portugal. The organization operates under the authority of the Federação Portuguesa de Natação (FPN) and serves 27 affiliated clubs across municipalities including Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Maia, Matosinhos, Felgueiras, Fafe, and Póvoa de Varzim. Its membership roster includes high-profile sports organizations such as Clube Fluvial Portuense, FC Porto, and Vitória Sport Clube, along with specialized clubs across the region.

ANNP organizes competitive activity across six aquatic disciplines: Natação Pura (competitive swimming), Polo Aquático (water polo), Natação Artística (artistic swimming), Masters, Natação Adaptada (para swimming), and Águas Abertas (open water swimming). Its technology stack consists primarily of third-party tools — Meet Manager for competition management and SwimRankings for rankings and calendar data — with no proprietary technology platform. The federation delivers competition management, athlete development pathways, referee/official training, coach certification support, and territorial championships, while also running signature events such as the Prova da Barragem da Queimadela and the Meeting Internacional do Porto.

Revenue derives from annual club affiliation fees (subscription recurring) and event organization activities, supplemented by municipal government sponsorship and supplier partnerships (e.g., Turbo sponsorship through 2028). The federation is governed by elected bodies (Corpos Sociais) on fixed terms, with the current leadership (2024-2028) headed by President Nuno Miguel Arcos Recarei. It maintains a headcount of 74 employees and operates from its Porto headquarters at Rua António Pinto Machado. As a non-profit, ANNP does not have external shareholders or private equity ownership.
