What Dierenambulance Alphen aan den Rijn e.o. does

Dierenambulance Alphen aan den Rijn e.o. (legal entity: Stichting Dierenambulance Alphen aan den Rijn e.o.) is a Dutch nonprofit foundation established in 2007 after being spun off from the Dierenbescherming (Dutch Animal Protection Society). The organization operates a volunteer-run animal ambulance service providing first aid to injured animals and transporting them to veterinarians and specialized shelters across three municipalities in South Holland: Alphen aan den Rijn, Nieuwkoop, and Kaag & Braassem. Service delivery relies on three ambulances provided on loan by Stichting Dierenlot and an owned facility at Produktieweg 12, purchased in 2021 and renovated by 2022, which includes quarantine space, a feeding kitchen, refrigeration for temporary pet storage, and a farewell room for owners.

The organization is 100% volunteer-operated with no paid staff and uses a minimal technology stack built on WordPress with Google Analytics and Wordfence security. Core offerings include the main animal ambulance service, the Nationale Dieren Voedselbank® program distributing subsidized pet food packages to low-income residents, the Meneer Jansen Noodfonds emergency medical fund for unowned animals, and a bundled free veterinary consultation app.

Revenue is generated through a hybrid model comprising public donations (bank transfer and QR code), ongoing sponsorship from local businesses (notably Beerco), nominal transport fees for privately owned pets (with free service for unowned, injured, found, or deceased animals), and a €5-per-package foundation subsidy on the pet food bank program. Outreach is community-led via the website, Facebook, Instagram, monthly email newsletters, and word-of-mouth, with the organization recognized as an "Erkend Beneficiant" on the Dierenlot fundraising platform.
