What Haukar does

Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar is a private, non-profit multi-sport club founded on April 12, 1931 and headquartered in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. It operates seven sports departments — football, handball, basketball, karate, chess, esports/mental sports, and general fitness — serving youth (ages 6–18), adult recreational athletes, and competitive/elite athletes through the Olís deild top-tier leagues and European competition (EHF participation in handball). Member/athlete administration is run on the Sportabler registration platform, which handles registrations, training schedules, and payments across departments.

The club's revenue is generated through a mix of sport-specific training fees (e.g., football seasons priced from ~58,300 ISK for 8th grade to ~196,300 ISK for 2nd grade; handball ~37,000–148,000 ISK), a tiered supporter scheme called 'Haukar í horni' (Silver, Gold, and Platinum monthly subscriptions ranging from 1,500 to 8,900 ISK), merchandise sales (handball jerseys, hoods, caps via the handbolti.haukar.is e-commerce store), seasonal Summer Sports School programs (9,000–15,000 ISK), corporate sponsorship (KFC, Coca-Cola, GOA, Origo, Rio Tinto Alcan), and fundraising via lottery and bingo. Day-to-day operations are run by approximately 14 staff, with the elite teams of handball, football, and basketball consolidated under the operating company Rekstrarfélag Hauka ehf.

Recent strategic activity centers on infrastructure investment (the Knatthús Hauka indoor arena inaugurated February 14, 2025), high-profile talent acquisition (Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir, two-year contract in 2026 with an elite development role), organizational restructuring (consolidation under Rekstrarfélag Hauka, new Platinum support tier introduced in October 2025), and competitive success (men's handball Icelandic Cup 2026, women's basketball league championship 2026). The 95th anniversary was celebrated in April 2026, and the 2025 annual report has been published, though specific revenue figures are not publicly disclosed.
