Core offering

SARA trains individuals and animal care organizations in meditation-based Animal Reiki through its proprietary Let Animals Lead® method. The nonprofit delivers online and in-person certification classes across three levels, workshops, and structured membership programs designed to reduce stress in shelter animals, improve adoptability, and support the wellbeing of animal caregivers and shelter staff.

Product overview

Shelter Animal Reiki Association (SARA) offers a unified portfolio of meditation-based Animal Reiki training and certification programs centered on the proprietary Let Animals Lead® method. The core offering consists of multi-level certification classes (Level 1, 2, and 3/Teacher Training) available both online and in-person, designed to train practitioners and teachers in hands-off, animal-led healing meditation. Supporting offerings include the Animal Reiki for Reiki Practitioners course for practitioners of other lineages, specialized workshops like Mindfulness with Horses, community support sessions, the annual World Animal Reiki Day initiative, and the Animal Reiki Talk Podcast. SARA also provides the Animal Reiki Practitioner Code of Ethics as a foundational governance framework, and partners with organizations through the SARA Organization membership program. All training programs carry dual accreditation from CPD Standards as both an accredited CPD provider and Trainer of Excellence.

Direct peers

• PetMassage: Provides certified hands-on animal bodywork training for pet owners and professionals. Operates a similar tiered certification model targeting the same holistic pet wellness and animal-care professional audience, though with a tactile modality versus SARA's hands-off meditation approach.
• Animal Reiki Source: Founded by Kathleen Prasad (SARA President/Co-Founder), Animal Reiki Source is the originating brand for the Let Animals Lead® curriculum and adjacent educational content (books, podcast). It is the closest direct peer — same founder, same proprietary method, complementary training programs.
• BrightHaven: Senior/special-needs animal hospice and holistic education nonprofit, whose president (Gail Pope) sits on SARA's board. Operates the Caregiver Academy and Animal Hospice certification, directly mirroring SARA's model of education-led animal welfare engagement.

Broad incumbents

• Pet Partners: Leading therapy animal organization that trains and registers volunteer teams for animal-assisted interventions. Comparable as a nonprofit training and certification body serving animal welfare volunteers and healthcare/animal-care institutions.
• American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA): Professional membership association for veterinarians practicing complementary and alternative modalities. Represents the institutional buyer persona SARA targets via its veterinary integration track and serves as a peer in advancing holistic animal care.
• The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT): The largest global Reiki education organization offering multi-level Usui/Tibetan Reiki certification across human and animal modalities. Comparable as a multi-tier certification and CPD-accredited training provider, though broader in scope than SARA's animal-focused niche.
• ASPCA: One of the largest U.S. animal welfare organizations providing shelter, rescue, advocacy, and grant programs. Comparable as a potential institutional partner for SARA's shelter-stress-reduction methodology and as an adjacent nonprofit in animal welfare.
• Best Friends Animal Society: Major national animal welfare nonprofit running sanctuary operations and a nationwide shelter network. Comparable as a SARA-style organization partner (shelter/rescue customer) and an adjacent player in the animal welfare advocacy ecosystem.
• Maddie's Fund: Family-founded animal welfare foundation providing grant funding and innovation support to shelters and rescue organizations nationwide. Functions as both a potential funder/partner for SARA and an adjacent player in the shelter welfare ecosystem.

Emerging players

• International Association of Animal Massage & Bodywork (IAAMB): Membership association certifying animal massage and bodywork practitioners. Competes for the same holistic pet care professional persona with a different modality, and represents an alternative certification pathway SARA practitioners might consider.
