Wetzel AG

What Wetzel AG does

Wetzel AG is a Swiss garden construction and water-feature company headquartered in Birmenstorf, Aargau, founded in 1967 and privately held by Martin Maurer, who became sole owner in 2021. The firm designs, builds, and maintains gardens, swimming ponds and biopools, fountains (Brunnen), and outdoor kitchens across Switzerland, serving private homeowners, public-sector clients, and hospitality venues.

Its core technical differentiators are the proprietary Swissteich natural water-purification system for swimming ponds and biopools, and a patented Flammengrill outdoor cooking product. Projects are delivered on a turnkey basis spanning planning, construction, and recurring maintenance. The firm holds an exclusive Swiss distribution arrangement with Niveko for premium prefabricated pools and participates in the ausLeidenschaft cross-vendor catalog channel.

Revenue is generated primarily through project-based, quote-driven contracts (Gartenbau, Wasserbau, Brunnenbau) supplemented by recurring maintenance packages. Pricing is bespoke rather than subscription-based, and customer concentration is low given the absence of named anchor clients and the dispersed private/public/hospitality mix. The firm operates exclusively within Switzerland, employs on the order of 40-48 people, and is recognized as a TOP Ausbildungsbetrieb.
