What ARTArchitects Ltd does
ARTArchitects Ltd is a London-based RIBA Chartered architectural practice specializing in the conservation, sensitive adaptation, and creative re-use of historic buildings, with a particular focus on ecclesiastical heritage and bespoke residential projects. Founded in 2014 by Alex Veal and Toshiya Kogawa, the firm operates as a micro-boutique with approximately five team members, including two AABC-accredited directors, a senior architect (Oliver Sheppard, joined from Sheppard Architects LLP), an architectural assistant (Katie Campbell), and a consultant (Charles Sheppard, former senior partner of Sheppard Architects).
The practice delivers professional architectural services across Grade I, Grade II*, and Grade II listed buildings — predominantly Church of England and other ecclesiastical commissions across London, Brighton, St Albans, and Hertfordshire — alongside private residential extensions and refurbishments and selected self-build social housing in Brighton. Technical differentiation rests on specialist conservation accreditation (AABC), deep listed-building regulatory expertise, and an academic research thread maintained through teaching roles at the University of East London, University of Hertfordshire, NYU London, and Japanese universities (Meiji, Utsunomiya). The firm's revenue is generated through project-based professional service fees, quote-based pricing tied to scope and heritage designation, and delivered via direct client engagement with no disclosed intermediaries, technology platform, or external investment.
