What ROBUST-6G does

ROBUST-6G is a European Union research project (HORIZON-JU-SNS-2023-STREAM-B-01-04) coordinated by Ericsson Research Türkiye and funded under the EU Horizon Europe / Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) via Grant Agreement No 101139068. The project began with a kickoff meeting on January 30-31, 2024 in Istanbul and is operated through a 13-entity consortium that mixes major industrial partners (Ericsson, Telefónica, Thales), seven European universities (University College Dublin, Linköping University, University of Murcia, University of Padova, Chalmers, Eurecom, ENSEA), and SMEs (Nextworks, Axon Logic, GOHM). It does not operate as a commercial company and has no revenue model; outputs are disseminated open-access.

The project's technical mission is to develop a unified, AI/ML-driven security service platform for future 6G networks, organized around four sub-products: a Smart, Automated, and Reliable Security Service Platform (the unifying core), a Trustworthy and Sustainable AI/ML Framework, a Zero-Touch Security Management Platform built on ZSM principles, and Physical Layer Security (PLS) solutions leveraging ultra-massive MIMO, beamforming, distributed MIMO, and Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) techniques. Concrete AI capabilities include RF fingerprinting for IoT device identification, physical layer authentication with RIS, secret key generation exploiting channel reciprocity, federated learning with privacy preservation, XAI-based detection of poisoning and adversarial attacks, and autonomous closed-loop threat response.

Outputs to date include 17 published deliverables spanning threat analysis, architecture design, AI/ML security frameworks, and validation, plus 9 structured physical layer security challenges with public datasets (RFFI-Temporal, RF Fingerprinting Migration, BRISC) and evaluation metrics. The target audiences are the research community, telecom operators and vendors, and IoT/edge device manufacturers. Operations are evidenced by six plenary meetings held across Europe between January 2024 and November 2025, with a seventh scheduled for March 2027 in Padova, indicating an active multi-year execution horizon.
