Metropolitan Police Bushey Sports Club

What Metropolitan Police Bushey Sports Club does

Metropolitan Police Bushey Sports Club Ltd is a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee operating a 36-acre events, hospitality, and sports venue in Bushey, Hertfordshire, UK. Originally established in 1967 as a sports and social club for the Metropolitan Police Service, the venue transitioned to independent governance in 2008 and has since opened to the broader community. Its offering spans four function rooms (capacity up to 300 guests in the Ballroom, up to 700 indoor across rooms), Monty's Bar & Kitchen restaurant, 17 football pitches, 3 cricket pitches, 6 floodlit padel courts operated by Padel Tree Bushey via the Playtomic platform, a 6-rink bowls green, a gym, and a fitness/exercise studio. Pitches were rated 14 of 16 as Good or Advanced in the Football Foundation PitchPower report (2025).

The business operates as a direct-to-consumer venue with six primary revenue streams: venue hire (weddings, conferences, parties, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, funerals, film location), food and beverage (Monty's Bar & Kitchen, afternoon tea), sports facility hire, gym and club memberships, ticketed events (Bushfest festival, Oktoberfest, tribute nights, comedy), and partnership/referral revenue from ~18 recommended suppliers. Pricing is predominantly pay-as-you-go with subscription tiers only on gym (£19.50–£23.75/month) and parking-discount (£6.67/month) memberships. Distribution is through the company website, online enquiry forms, table reservations, direct venue sales, Playtomic, email newsletter, and social channels. Technology is limited to standard hospitality management software and an ANPR parking system; no proprietary AI, data, or platform capabilities are described.

The company serves a diversified mix of consumer segments including couples planning weddings, corporates booking conferences and team-building, private-party hosts, amateur sports clubs, gym members, ticketed-event attendees, film/TV production companies, and the Jewish community for simcha celebrations via kosher-catering partnerships. Recent strategic emphasis has been on converting tennis courts to padel courts, professionalizing commercial leadership (Managing Director David Rees joined 2019), and building a recommended-supplier ecosystem to deepen venue-attached services.

• Padel Tree: Specialist UK padel operator currently running the 6 courts at Metropolitan Bushey via Playtomic — the direct on-site counterpart for the venue's fastest-growing sports vertical.
• The Club Company: UK operator of premium country clubs (golf, tennis, fitness, dining, weddings) — closely comparable in combining sport, F&B and venue hire, though anchored on golf courses rather than football/cricket.

• Everyone Active (Better): UK public leisure centre operator (swimming, gyms, sports halls, classes) managed on behalf of local authorities — broadly comparable in sport and fitness, but publicly contracted rather than event-led.
